Toronto still has 4 goalies on their NHL roster (Andersen, McElhinney, Sparks, Pickard). 2 of which will have to go on waivers tomorrow barring a trade before the deadline for opening day rosters. Assuming they only want to carry 2 goalies to start the season.

Are Sparks/McBackup/Pickard an upgrade on Rittich or Gillies?

Mcbackup definitely is. Sparks and Pickard MIGHT be, but not sure id pick them up if they went to the waiver wire

I would say yes across the board. I would also suggest that Treliving does his best to make a trade with Toronto because chances are any of them are claimed before Calgary has the opportunity. Particularly if Toronto is willing to move Sparks.

so Hathaway, Dube and/or Mangiapane over Lazar and Peluso; Prout, Valimaki and/or Andersson over Kulak and probably Rittich over Gillies. Interesting

I’d send 5th rounder Toronto’s way to nab Garrett Sparks. Seems to be the better of the 3 and there might be some 1A potential there. His .936 sv% and AHL Championship last season is no joke.

Wow. Kulak, Peluso, and Lazar all going down?

So Dube, Hathaway, and Mangiapane survive. Probably one more F cut?

Valimaki, Prout, and Andersson still survive. 1 more D cut too?

Kulak and Lazar both got passed on the depth chart.

I love Lazar, but you can’t argue against the fact Mangiapane/Dube crushed him in the pre-season.

Kulak did not show well.

Flames made the right choices. I'm relieved, I was worried they might keep Peluso.

Impressed with the choices by the Flames and surprised they're actually choosing to put guys through waivers instead of going the safe route... I like it!

That's exciting. I like Kulak but have no problem with Valimaki or Andersson getting his spot with Prout the #7 extra / facepuncher.

I'd rather Hathaway than Peluso in that gritty 14F role, especially with Prout still available to punch faces.

I feel bad for Lazar, but he hasn't shown any improvement really. He's got a good motor and work ethic, but Dube does that with high end skill mixed in.

Geez. Thanks Dave Cameron. Another blown 2nd rounder that we could have used instead of picking up one of Cameron’s faves.

Obviously Peters isn’t a fan. Treliving not afraid to admit mistake but seeing Formenton (who they picked with our pick) making Sens stings.

Oofff. Right after I voted in the defenseman poll. Of course being placed on waivers doesn’t necessarily mean you are going down.

I actually hope Lazar passes through waivers. Sens threw him into the NHL immediately and he never got AHL time to work on aspects of his game. Going to Stockton and putting up some points might be good for him.

Surprised they’re waiving Kulak again. Why not try to swing a trade to Toronto? They need more defensive depth and we need a better backup goaltender. Seems like a trade could be there.
