Icon48 Waiver wire Sept 24

Everyone on waivers yesterday cleared (no surprise)
Nothing too interesting.

Nattinen waiver is being reported as mutual contract termination.

Is Keegan Lowe moving into a management position?

A few years ago Boucher looked like something. Not sure if he’s worth the chance, though.

Guess Gravel really couldn't help the Oilers...

Who can help them then?

Anyone think G Chris Gibson from NYI is a gamble worth taking. He was pretty good in the games I saw last season.

This was discussed in another of the waiver threads, but the problem with claiming a goalie on the waiver wire is that he needs to then be on the roster for the year. Were the Flames to claim Gibson or anyone else that would require sending BOTH Rittich and Gillies to the AHL, which then would shuffle Parsons all the way down to the ECHL. This would be a terrible idea because at some point the team needs to commit to seeing players develop into NHL regulars. This doesn't happen if every one of the team's goalie prospects is shackled to lower levels because of a waiver claim who is arguably no better at playing the position.

I remember some posters wanting to trade for Reid Boucher a few years ago.

Wasn't Gravel already penciled in as one of the many Giordanos on the Oilers blue line?

Thanks for clearing that up!
If one of Rittch or Gillies doesn't claim the backup spot, I wouldn't mind trying to trade one of them for Gibson. Might seem like a lateral move but we've given both our goalies plenty of time to take the lead and none of them have stepped up.

Yes, on a pairing with Griffin Reinhart

Stats wise, Gibson is the worst of the three. What makes you think he'll be better the Rittich or Gillies?

Is that a fact? Both Gillies and Rittich were rookies last year, and received 9 and 16 NHL starts respectively. Gillies now has a total of 10 NHL starts. Do you really believe that both goalies have had "plenty of time" for development? One year of splitting a handful of games in the NHL?

Quite contrary to your view I don't believe that either Gillies nor Rittich is a finished product. I do not think they have had "plenty of time" from which to draw conclusions about their NHL futures. Nor do I believe that both have failed to "step up." I think both Gillies and Rittich took big steps last year towards being NHL goalies, and I expect them both to take further steps this year. Unlike a number of posters here I am actually pretty confident in seeing at least one of them turn in 20 quality NHL starts for the Flames this season. It is ridiculously early to be moving in another direction from two fairly young goalies entering just their second NHL seasons.

I for one have no interest in acquiring 25-year-old Chris Gibson—certainly not at the expense of either Gillies or Rittich.

Appreciate your thorough reply bud. Yeah that makes sense, I was trying to get an idea of what people's thoughts were as I have only see Gibson play.

Really hope one of our goalies takes charge and shows improvement.
