How did I know that'd be the first reply... I know there are alterative routes but this is the route we're taking.
If you know the answer, please answer it. Otherwise, I'm not looking for anyone's 2 cents. But thanks anyway.

I'm going to give mine anyways. I got my cat from Street Cats. I got to provide them with a profile of the type of cat I wanted. Then I went and looked at the available cats and picked out mine. They then brought the cat to my house to make sure we got along. The entire process was just perfect and return I was able to give a great cat a home that otherwise would not have had one. Sorry dude - I know your not looking for this info but I urge you to consider an avenue like this.

Well, my reply may have come off a little harsh. I don't mind this kind of input but it's not really what we're looking for. We've had a cat at one point that was a street cat and we didn't feel close to it.
All our other cats in the past were from a Pet store and we just prefer that route. Also by cat i'm talking Kitten. As I know Petland has an adoption facility but we want a new cat errr kitten.

Too much.
Don't you know how old your cat is?

At the risk of being pummelled, I think you are making the presumption that a rescue cat/kitten will be feral . . . . . in fact, it could be that a domesticated momma cat and her kittens who were dropped off and the latter would meet any criteria for warmth and cuddliness you would want.
We have two feral rescue cats who spent their first formative months in the wild and you are right to presume they are far from your normal domesticated version even though they've been indoor cats for about four years now.
We also have two other rescue cats that came from a domesticated environment and are delightful in terms of personality and warmth.
If warmth and cuddliness is what you want, you don't have to automatically rule out a rescue kitten.
I will now retreat carefully backwards towards the door and out of this conversation.

Also when we were in Calgary looking for our two cats, we were checking the 'kittens for free' ads out and found that Petland employees had been by to scoop all the kittens (for free) to sell in their store....:/
So two things:
1) the cats you see in Petland are no different from the ones you will find elsewhere. They are coming from the same place.
2) How much are the cats at Petland? Too much....
Another important thing is that if you can meet the momma cat before you adopt you will will be able to dial in on the kittens probably personality.
You can't do this at Petland, you can through private adoptions.

I'm going to first stick up for you CF, and second give you an answer.
Cats are cats. Rescue society or not, they all need homes. I tried very hard to get a cat from a rescue society, but the hummed and hawed about whether or not they should give me one, meanwhile my cat at home was driving me nuts because her sister had died and she was lonely, so eventually I went through a private adoption.
They all need homes or they'll end up having to be rescued anyways.
As far as cost, I believe you're looking at at least $150-$200 but the cat will come spayed or neutered and with it's first shots.
As for the personality thing: my two cats were sisters and had completely opposite personalities. That doesn't float.

Sorry if i'm off topic but NEVER buy a dog from Petland. Some of them come from mills and they have mental problems. I know 5-6 people who have bought dogs from them and they either have an aggression problem or had health problems. Besides if you see how small of a cage they give to some dogs it's pretty heartbreaking. How can you have a bermese mountain in such a small ass cage.
That said not too sure about their cats. hehe. But we goto the SPCA fairly often and they usually have a whole bunch of cats ranging in different colors and ages. Usually they have at least 5 kittens there.

If I'm not mistaken, a typical Petland store will have some rescue animals, including cats, available as part of their Pets For Life Foundation . . . . they work with local rescue agencies in that way.

On the other hand, Petland is very definitely accused in many circles of using puppy mill dogs.

Yeah, and they charge something like $500 for their "rescue" dogs, whereas foundations like ARF charge $180.
Petland does nothing for free.

Which isn't a bad deal, which is why we buy from Petland. We did 13 years ago with our old cat we had to put down last month, and our other one is Petland bought aswell.
We just didn't know the price, it's almost time to get a new kitty because our 1 is getting lonely and the house is still feeling the void of that 2nd cat.
My older sister adopted a cat from a farmer who needed to give them homes. But then to do that, you have to pay for the immunizations, ect yourself.
We looked at a few Pets for Life cats, but that just didn't stick... for 1) Their too old 2) They already have a developed personality 3) They already have a name.

We bought a cat from Petland a few years ago for my son. The cat got sick and stopped eating and then later on we had to put him down, worse thing I ever had to do. The only complaint that I had was the fact that the vet they sent us to was horrible and somehow missed the fact the the cat had a tumor in it's intestine, while she said it was fine. After we put the cat down, my vet called Petland and told them the situation, we got a call from Petland saying sorry and they gave us back all the money that we had spent on the cat right from day 1. They also ended up sending us a condolence card and a written appology, so for that I give them top marks. From all of this I still won't buy another cat from the pet store just from what we went through with the first one. I think the cat cost us $250, that was with all the initial vet bills that you get with it.

Our rescue puppy last year was $450, regular price on a breeders dog would be almost double.
Other place for adopted cats is the small pet store in Riverbend, where we got one of our cats. It was $125 but that was 5 years ago.
Rescue animals are they way to go...most of the kittens/puppies have just lost thier mother, but haven't been abused or mistreated, or have any issues, like some of the older poor resuce animals have had to endure.

Just make sure you take care of it and clean up after it. For god sake, don't put freaking cat food on the front porch.
There is nothing worse than a house full of cats that aren't cleaned up after. The most vile smell I've ever had the displeasure of smelling. Unfortunately, I am subjected to it a couple of times a week through work.

My dog came from Petland and he's been the most wonderful critter one could ask for...no health or mental issues (except for some separation anxiety).
Paying $800 for a mutt may seem excessive but I was not impressed with the way the rescue agencies I approached conducted business - too many hoops to go through.
I know their intentions are good, but I'm an adult, and have always been a responsible dog owner and didn't like their condescending interrogations, home visit requirements etc.

$250 is the price, includes immunizations, Vet check up and a neuturing discount.
Went there earlier.
