Early August Youtube wanderings...

Neat to see this video. Although the WHA was kaput at this point, the top level of professional hockey was still pretty watered down.

Rumour has it the Al McNeil told the players during the second intermission that the team was relocating. Sure enough, a month later Nelson Skalbania appears on HNIC to outline the deal.

A smattering of boos in the Omni at the final buzzer. You could tell Dan Bouchard was POed. Also, I had forgotten Don Lever wore 12.

Can't find the first-ever Calgary Flames game broadcast, but here's some footage of their first win (vs. the Kings) in the Corral. Pat Riggin in net.

No play by play on this clip. Was surprised by how quiet the building was.

This is the last season. It'll be announced in one month on HNIC.

Is this being shown here with the expressed permission of Molstar Communications?

I love that the screen isn't bombarded with graphics and stats.

I had no idea that Paul Henderson played for the Flames. That was his final game in the NHL.

I didn’t know that either. He was actually under contract for the first year in Calgary too but played/assistant coached on their farm team. The farm team folded before the season ended so he stayed on as a scout for the Flames for he rest of the season. Useless trivia.

Flames had Paul Henderson and Jim Craig which is kind of cool.
