Salary dump to sign Statsny I believe. Friedman predicted this on the Fan 960 yesterday.

But what about Niemi? I thought he was playing really well for Montreal.

Habs probably buyout Mason. Expecting to see him on waivers today.

Makes sense. Do the trade before the deadline for buyout.
Still stunned by this. Imagine Chevy wanted to deal with non conference rival. Not saying that Armia would have solved our rw issue but not a bad player and we could have recouped some draft picks.

Taking a while to get to 5000

So Montreal isn't in on Stastny then. Weird deal.

Canucks should have pulled off the deal with Montreal. Unless Chevy wanted to deal with eastern conference team only. Canucks have the room.

Seems light for a salary dump of that size, theres no way habs lose that deal cause they gave nothing
But id have wanted a bit higher pick, maybe a 3rda.

I think it is the opposite. I think a Western Conference team would have wanted more than an Eastern Conference team to help the Jets keep a big piece of the team that went to the Western Conference finals.

If the Jets offered that to the Flames (big if), flames should have taken it. Solves 2 issues (RW and goalie) and get draft picks.

I think Rittich is better than Mason to be quite honest. Armia would have been a good pick up though.

I just think it's really risky to rely on old man Smith to stay healthy and Rittich and Gillies couldn't carry the ball last year when Smith got hurt.
i know that there is a learning curve for young goalies but it is a big risk for Tre. You could argue that next to Coaching, the goalie situation Is what killed them last year.
Seems odd to not address it or even have a contingency in place.

Yeah this exact trade was on HF suggeted between the Flames and the Jets. Every Jets fan was wildly against it.
Personally I don't see how you could turn this down if you were Tre and it was offered.

Buy him out then. Free rw and draft picks for ~$2m spread over 2 years. Moneyball kind of move. Love it for habs

Armia will go from 4th line (in terms of ice time) on the Jets to top 6 on Montreal. It will be interesting to see how good he is in a bigger role.
Also RFA with arbitration rights .... what sort of contract will he get. A lot more cap space for him in Montreal than Winnipeg.
