Lightning re-sign JT Miller (5 years, $5.25M AAV)
https://twitter.com/user/status/1011678626532810752
Sets a highwater mark for Lindholm's deal? Should help push Lindholm below $5M I would think. Maybe $4.5-4.75M AAV?
Miller has scored 23G+35A, 22G+34A, and 22G+21A goals the last 3 years.
Lindholm is 2 years younger, but has: 16G+28A, 11G+34A, 11G+28, and 17G+22A.

Seems Lindholm should be significantly less than this, shouldn’t it?

I would be okay giving the same cap to Lindholm but would want 7 years.

He's a touch older than Lindholm so I wouldn't say significantly given the UFA years being bought. Should be less though, as you say

but then factor take home pay compared to Alberta and the fact he likely wanted to stay on a contender, so may have taken less.
I think the 5.25 is likely a fair ball park figure.

Boy, the Tampa tax advantage is real, isn't it?

Couple that with living on the beach all year and being a perennial contender.

Based off this, 5x5 seems fair for Lindholm.

If more UFA years are being bought out than Lindholm, that would mean Lingholm's contract should be significantly less.

Lindholm only has 2 RFA years left. So technically 6 year contract would mean the same amount of UFA years bought (but need to account for 2 RFA years in the AAV).

Good contract. Miller is what I'm hoping Bennett becomes at this point.

While this makes it difficult to compete for UFAs, the tax advantage does significantly help to keep the cost down for the Flames's pending RFAs.
