Default St.John’s NFLD Advice

So work has decided to send me out east for a conference last minute and never being to Newfoundland I sold my boss on flights being bad going there (which they are) and talked him into letting me head out 2 days early. Even managed to get a 16 hour layover in TO to catch a Jays game on the way home.

I’m renting a car while I’m there and am wondering what are some not to miss things in St.John’s and area ? The conference already has a pub crawl planned on George Street so that should be covered, just wondering what else I should see & eat ?

Thanks in advance.

Drive to Conception Bay South and get fish and chips at By the Beach. It's fantastic - don't let anyone try to convince you that Ches' has the best fish and chips.

Sweet dude. I love St. John's. Everything there is awesome. Just hanging out taking it in is all you need to do.

I'm headed out there to go RVing with my folks for two weeks in late June. Hoping some icebergs are still in the area.

Nice, my dad is RV'ing there the same time. Say hi to him for me! Head up to Twillingtate if you have time and take a boat out to the icebergs if they are out there. They have a little fruit winery that has some decent desert wines as well.

Twillingate is a 5 hour drive from St John's, that's a bit of a hike for a day trip.

If you only have a couple of days I would check out George Street, signal Hill, jellybean row. Make sure you find a place to eat some salt beef/jigs dinner.

It's been a while since I have been back, but I remember the truck stop at the Irving in Gould's having exceptional nfld food.fries and dressing for the win

Yes, well it was more directed at Surferguy, who has 2 weeks, than the OP...

Cape Spear lighthouse is a short drive and if icebergs are going by it is a great viewpoint.

- Bring some decent footwear and go for a hike on the Signal Hill trails
- Go out to Cape Spear/Petty Harbour
- Go on a whale/bird watching boat tour
- If you’re into fine dining, go to Raymond’s
- If you don’t want so fancy go to Mallard Cottage (its a restaurant) or Merchant Tavern
- Go to O’Reilys Pub on George Street one night and listen to some Irish music

I’ll think of some more and post again later.
