It is little wonder that Bill Peters wanted out of Carolina.

Bring Joe in for poho.
Tom Fundun is going to bungle this huge. His ego is going to kill that team.

#2 OA and Lindholm for Hamilton +. Thus continuing the Flames collecting of 06 draftees.

no playoffs in 9 years ... a housecleaning makes sense in a way. Francis was just "promoted" a month or so ago though, so timing is weird.
It's a shame that the ownership problem muddies the water. They actually have a very solid core to build around at the moment (great young top 4 in Hanifin-Faulk-Slavin-Pesce; Aho, Teravainen and Lindholm up front; Necas and Bean in the pipeline and a #2 pick upcoming), but it's a pretty badly-run franchise apart from that.

Wasn't there word that they would re-structure without full-on canning Francis? Maybe something with a different title?
This is quite a turnabout.

Team just won the 2nd overall pick too. Drafting Svechnikov could be what finally turns this franchise around. Too bad Francis and Joe won't be around to witness that.

Tweeting out that you've terminated the contract of a legend in the organization... There has to be a better way to send him on his way. Not a good look for the Canes.

Is there still a problem? Last I heard was they sold 2/3 of the franchise to a billionaire Texan who agreed to keep the team in Carolina for at least 7 years.

Therein lies the problem.

Yeah, this wasn’t really a surprise. Peters even said when he excercised his option to leave, that he thought the new GM coming in should be able to pick the coach.

The team has been heading in the right direction for a while, but haven't been able to get over the hump...mostly due to a talent deficiency (especially in goal). I have been wrong before, but this feels extremely short-sighted from an impatient owner. Obviously, the team's finances dictate that things need to change if there's a hope of salvaging the franchise, but this doesn't seem like the right kind of change to me.
Lots of GM positions available all of a sudden. I guess it's time to dust off the ol' resume.

I'm thinking of emailing the Canes and asking for a job.
I'm not one of those pesky GMs who requires "full autonomy". If the owner wants to interfere in my work, by all means.

If I were a conspiracy theorist, I'd be wondering if his promise to keep the team in Carolina has an out clause that would allow the team to move sooner if it fails to meet certain performance benchmarks and that his actions since taking over have been made to ensure the team fails to meet said benchmarks.
On the other hand, pro sports history is full of successful businessmen who have purchased teams and run them into the ground because they thought they were smarter than they are.
