wranglers San Jose @ Stockton: Play-in game!(?) 7PM MT

Stockton has been fighting for their playoff lives down the stretch this season, but their fate isn’t entirely in their hands. The Heat beat Ontario 5-2 last night but they’ll still need some luck and a win tonight if they want to stay off the golf course.

They meet San Jose tonight in a must win game if either team wants to make the playoffs.

Last year San Jose was one of the best teams in the league, but Stockton pushed them all the way to a deciding Game 5 OT in their first round best of 5 series. Shinkaruk missed on a breakaway and then a short while later, the Barracuda came back and scored short handed.

The scenario tonight is as follows: (UPDATED)

San Diego holds the last playoff spot in the division. If they fail to get a point vs Tucson tonight, then the door is open for the winner of the San Jose/Stockton game. Both San Jose and Stockton hold the tiebreaker over San Diego if they can match them in points, so the winner of the Stockton game will make the playoffs as long as the Gulls fail to pick up a point.

I haven’t been watching too many Heat games this year, but I’ll give a best guess for the lineup tonight:

Dubé-C. Smith-Foo
Lomberg-McMurtry-Poirier
Pollock-Findlay-Carroll
Gazdic-Pelley-Nowick

Wotherspoon-Andersson
Kylington-Goloubef
Healey-Prout

Gillies
Rittich

Mangiapane, Klimchuk, Shinkaruk, Hrivik all out with injury as far as I’m aware.

You can listen to the game here, with Kisker’s unmistakable PbP talent:

http://stocktonheat.com/live/

Or you can use AHL live to watch the game

Go Heat Go!

As long as the Stockton game tonight does not go to a shootout, the winner of it would make the playoffs if San Diego is held pointless.

Things get real complicated if it goes to a shootout and I’m not quite sure what happens.

Sweet thanks for the update! I thought they had no chance to get in.

Hopefully the boys get it done!

I guess they must have been pretty good down the stretch.
We should have called up Huska and buried GG in the minors.

EDIT:. They are 5-5 in their last 10 so maybe not the right move.

As far as I remember, with 4 games remaining for each team, San Diego had to gain no points and Stockton had to win every game before a shootout. San Jose also making a run has complicated things but they’ve made it this far

San Diego was tied with Tucson with less than 3 minutes to go in the third last night until Tucson scored the go ahead goal

Both Stockton and San Jose would own the tiebreaker over San Diego even if their game goes to a shootout. If San Diego loses in regulation, the winner of the Stockton-San Jose game will go to the playoffs.

Unfortunately, the San Diego-Tucson game starts an hour after the Stockton game, so the winner will have to sweat out their fate even after their game is over.

Well then there shouldnt be any quit in either team. A win could go really far in proving some of the players drive/determination.

Go heat!!! I'd love to see what they can do if they make it in. Sad that Mangiapane and others are hurt but glad theyre making this push all the same.

Anyone know if it's still about 10 bucks or so to buy the game as a one-off from the AHL stream service? Might just catch this one.

Apparently the AHL page is down but twitter has updates (both the Stockton page and the AHL page).

PS Retro Berra in net for San Diego...

See if the Heat can pull this off. Need a strong effort to tie up the game.
