But why the Rangers of all teams? Location, location, location. Unless the rangers aren't rebuilding but doing a sweeping re-tool on the fly.

Kovalchuk has just said that he will spend next 2-3 years "in America". His team had been just eliminated from KHL playoffs.

2-3 year deal for a 35 year old, one dimensional forward? Better the Rangers than the Flames that's for sure.

Kovy should get a maximum of a one year deal to start off from any sane team - a show me you've still got it contract. He has world class skill but unfortunately father time and playing in a watered down league play key factors.

I am no SKA fan but what makes you hate an irrelevant team on the other side of the globe so much?

He knows they're rebuilding right? They traded everyone good and are fully planning on sucking for a few years?

Was that in the brochure?

Maybe they are gearing up to make a big run at Tavares. Have the Rangers ever done a full rebuild? It seems that's just not accepted in that market.

I know the rangers always spend to the max, but do they give their players a lot of other perks or under the table deals to get people to sign there?

The perks come from living in Manhattan and playing in that market.

Kovalchuk isn't one dimensional. He had high end two way play in New Jersey when he led them to the SCF and his offensive repertoire is varied and elite. Is there some risk at his age? Yes. But he could be a piece not unlike Hossa in 2015 for a team(and even 38yo Hossa was a beast before retiring - Chicago missed him this year.) Did I mention he shoots right? Now what team could use a right shot sniper.

In context of the "SKA is Putin's team" conspiracy that was going on earlier in the season, it's pretty funny.

There were no Rumors of Harper rigging the NHL in Flames favor.

Yeah, but this very loss renders the whole conspiracy theory wrong, does not it?

And if you really hate Putin, it would possibly cheer you up that Russia's market and currency are in free fall following the latest US sanctions

It's so true. In fantasy league's I wouldn't touch a freshly signed Ranger UFA with a ten foot pole. Even Shattenkirk's game fell off and he's in his prime (yeah injuries, but still).

Something about the big apple where a lot of guy's seem to start mailing it in.

Great city though. Can't blame Kovy for wanting to sign there.
