Projected Point Totals and Career Highs
Thought I'd keep this going a little bit since there are some really interesting career seasons developing..
Monahan is currently on pace for 50 goals, 43 assists and 93 points.
Previous career highs are 31 goals and 63 points. Wowsa.
Ferland is currently on pace for 37 goals and 52 points.
Previous career highs are 15 goals and 25 points.
Gaudreau is currently on pace for 39 goals, 82 assists and 121 points.
Previous career highs are 30 goals and 78 points.
Tkachuk is on pace for career high 59 points.
Brodie is on pace for career high 50 points.

I’d like Brodie to have great offensive stats and better defensive stats. Am I being greedy?

Great thread idea.
Brodie has 14 points in 23 games. Career high is 45
Frolik has 10 points in 23 games. Career high is 44
Smith has 11 wins in 20 starts. Career high is 38 wins
Mikael Backlund has 26 pm in 23 games (GOON!) His career high is 36 pm.
Brett Kulak's next point is a career high. He had 3 points in 21 games last year. 1 point and 8 games to set new career highs in each category
Matt Stajan needs 51 games to hit 1000. That might be tough for him to get this season.

This was a bit shocking to me without looking at stats I would have thought he hovered around 50 points every year. Mr consistent

It was a bit shocking to me too since I could've sworn Frolik's career-high in points is 45. I checked, and it is.

Projected Point Totals and Career Highs
There are presently eight players on pace to score +100 points. There have been only five players to hit this mark since 2010, and there have not been multiple +100-point-scorers since the 2009-10 season.
The big increase in NHL scoring this season has the Flames appearing to be in excellent shape moving forward, with their top two scorers locked down for five more years at under $7.0 m each.
It will be interesting to see how increased scoring will affect player contracts in the next season or two. Do lower historical precedents increase the value of impending deals for Backlund and Tkachuk?
On the other side of this, Leon Draisaitl presently carries the eleventh highest cap hit in the NHL. He is on pace to score 78 points, which would essentially match his output from last year. But unlike last season in which he cashed in on a place in the top-ten NHL scoring leaderboard, he is currently on pace to end up somewhere on the bottom of the top-60. Oilers fans take solace is his production relative to last year, but in a new context he has clearly fallen well back from where he was projected to perform.
Will Draisaitl’s contract and performance serve as a cautionary tale?

I think ANY contract someone signs with the oilers should automatically be thrown out as a useful comparable, unless you're trying to make a case in how not to GM.

I hope Gaudreau can stay hot at take a run at Nilsson's single season record for points as a Flame.

Ferland started in the bottom six with 2 points in his first 9 games.

^^ Right?!?! If Ferly keeps it up and pushes for 30+ goals it would be a double increase on his previous career high. Awesome to see him playing like he is right now, keep it up !

No. Go back a year with Gaudreau and Monahan. Gaudreau had his career lowest point total, and Monahan had less than 60 points. Yes Gaudreau was injured, but he struggled the first two months pre-injury. Many players struggle the first year after signing that first lucrative contract. Check out 02-03 Iginla...
If he is a winger scoring at this pace next year the Oilers might start to worry. But I doubt it affects contract values for teams that can actually appraise talent properly.
I so think that this will be Gaudreau's best point production season. He's the perfecthe age, no new contract pressure, and new enforcement of rules to benefit his style. Going to be fun to watch.

I really doubt that the early high offense will last the season. Some of those players will get hurt, others will slow down. McDavid just cracked 100 points last year, and he beat second place by 11 points. A quarter of the season is a good sample size, but it's not the whole season. Slashing will sneak back in as the season goes on.

I don’t think it will. Clutching and grabbing hasn’t crept back in after over a decade.

Sure, but I cannot see scoring drop so precipitously that everyone will fall off of their current pace. Even though I don’t expect all eight of the current 100-point-pace-setters will get there, I am totally confident there will be more than just one—which will be the first time since 2011 that has happened.

And hooking and holding are virtually non-existent. I️ know people hate cheap calls on those but they are easy to avoid. 1) keep your stick away from a player’s midsection; 2) keep your hands off other players and use body position.

Obviously a long way to go, but i am so glad the flames let Ferland continue to develop into what alot of people saw the potential for. A legit first line RW! I would say 80% of this board wanted us to trade for or still do want us to trade for an RW for the top line.

Well, I would disagree to a point, but the huge jump in scoring that happened in 2005/06 didn't last.

I can’t speak to the scoring, but that rule change has definitely stuck. Go watch a pre-lockout game for proof.
