truc·u·lent (trŭk′yə-lənt)
adj.
1. Disposed or eager to fight or engage in hostile opposition; belligerent.
2. Showing or expressing bitter opposition or hostility; aggressively defiant: a truculent speech against the new government; a truculent glance.
3. Disposed to violence; ferocious or cruel.
We hear about it all the time, do you feel this team has it? Honestly and this is not based off of just tonight but I feel this team is truly lacking it. Gaudreau gets slashed all year and we see no response. Smith taking it in the chops and nothing happens. We have to see poor Tanner Glass who has spent the whole year in the minors get the #### kicked out of him. It's frustrating to watch.

This team needs some players with some more heart and that dressing room really needs a change. This team and this room needs a shakeup. Getting rid of Gully is a start but this team needs a guy like Engelland back. This team does NOT stand up for themselves. They need to have that "wolf pack mentality" Does it start with your captain? I have no idea but it's really sad when your goalie has to be the one to go fire up that room day in day out and stand up for himself.

This team needs to stick up for each other. Glass is fighting for his job, Gio skated away from Smith as that crap went down.
Need a legit scrapper on the team.
And Lucic is NOT a heavyweight in the NHL. Glass is just done.

They're a soft team without a lot of emotion. Most of the team does flybys instead of finishing checks and it's been happening all year. Obviously the goon era is over but they need to lose a couple guys who don't want to get their hands dirty this offseason. I don't fault them individually if it is not their game but there are just too many guys who avoid contact and scrums on the same team.

Should buyout Brouwer... Staj will retire. Good chance to bring in a couple buzzsaws and revamp the 4th line.

But more concerning is that the few guys who can play chippy don't seem to stick up for one another except for Hamonic. Brouwer has shown passion about 3 times in a flames jersey. Bennett and Hathaway play tough once every 6 weeks.
Lately the guy who puzzles me the most re: rough stuff is Ferland... Was a wrecking ball at a younger age and lately he is a perimeter player who doesn't want to get his hands dirty. He's a 40 point a year 1st liner who doesn't hit or fight consistently anymore.

It almost seems like they don't like each other much out on the ice when they don't answer cheap shots and slashes back like they have been all year.

It was kind of sad when Gio didn't stick up for Smith when Lucic whacked at Smith's glove/blocker after the puck was stopped and the whistle was blown. I think if Hamonic was in there, he would've crosschecked the hell out of Lucic. If this is the Flames back in 2004 - 2009/2010, Regehr and Iggy would've had Lucic nailed to the boards and pounded every frickin greaser out of the way. This team is too dang soft, especially our D-men. That was a nasty fight for Glass, but it was necessary. Unfortunately, he lost big time on that one.

Team has been soft for some time. Hard to believe Burke is still part of the organization as he must hate what he sees on the ice game after game.

I give Lucic kudos.

My read on the fight was more code than anything else.

Glass felt he had to go on behalf of Smith even though he is not really part of the team in an everyday, on the ice, sort of way

Lucic obliged him.

Neither guy felt it.

Lucic got him early with a good one. Frankly I think he felt bad about it

When Glass swung again, Lucic swung back but neither really were terribly interested in winning the tussle

Lucic eased up, and kudos to him.

I didn’t buy a minute of that fight as anything more than obligatory on both sides and am glad it ended quickly

Glass is... an okay enforcer who's not the worst I've ever seen on this team (hello Kevin Westgarth) but shouldn't be around a great team

6'3, 235 lbs
1 or 2 lost fights going back over 10 fights (1 of those to Engelland)

I would consider him a heavyweight.... maybe not to 5-10 years ago standards where you could dress Peter Worrell who knew more about fighting than skating but by todays standards, I don't see anyway he isn't a heavyweight.

Almost all of this is incorrect.

It seems like the popular stance on the Smith comments from yesterday are supportive but I wasn't crazy about them personally. To me, it seemed like he was shaming his teammates by saying "it's sad" that Glass had to do that despite being in the minors most of the year and that the team "needs more guys like that".

To be clear, I have zero issue with him saying that behind closed doors, directly to him teammates, because he's a veteran, he's been through it all and that kind of feedback is good for teammates to hear. It does rub me the wrong way though, when he says it to the media.

We may have to deal with Lucic twenty five more times, and I have hopes that those ten points against the Oilers are actually going to matter next season. Sadly, somebody is going to have to stop that goon from getting away with the crap he was pulling last night.

I know the days of a goon on the team are gone, and frankly I think that's for the better, but if our division rival is going to have someone like Lucic who, for all intents and purposes is basically just a goon now, we need to have a better answer than Glass. No offence to Glass and props to him for stepping up.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I miss Engelland.

Engelland was always going home to Vegas so no use crying over spilt milk but I do think he was missed this season.

Every team faces Lucic. I doubt many teams are strategizing their game plan around him.

If facing him a few times a year is costing the Flames a playoff spot, they’re probably not worthy of it in the first place.

I do think this this particular incident (Lucic) is being overblown, but in general, I would like to see the Flames get tougher, both in terms of overall play (finishing checks) and specifically in terms of clearing bodies out of their own crease. I think this was particularly where Engelland has been missed. (Well, that and beating up two Canucks at once...)

It's funny how Treliving always talked about building a heavy team, but after being the gm for three years he's built the exact opposite. Why didn't he follow his own plan?
