One of the classy guys on the team. Regardless of what you think about his on-ice performance, he deserves to be honoured for this huge milestone.

And of all the weird things B.Sutter did, his utilisation of Stajan to me was the most puzzling. Stajan was coming off back to back 50 point seasons, was cleary a top 6 forward. And he just suddenly got relegated to the 4th line. It all happened so fast and without explanation.

We often hear of organisations 'ruining' a young players development. Well Stajan got the same treatment here in his prime years. Why a legit top 6 C, one of the most valuable commodities in the NHL, got suddenly demoted to line 4 still puzzles me to this day. But not once did Stajan complain. He put on his skates and did what he was asked. He was a leader during the hard rebuild years. And he stuck with the team until his time comes to an end.

8+ years as a Flame. Pretty crazy to think how many games he's played here and how fast time goes. He really does deserve a standing ovation at his ceremony.

Eric Francis says there won't be a ceremony tonight but rather before the game on the 29th

So yeah, get there early for the ceremony tonight.

I don't understand the love in with Stajan. He has always been a disappointment. The Flames traded for a player who scored 55 points and got a guy that topped out at 33 points in his best season over 8 full seasons. He has been way overpaid the past four years further devaluing his contributions.

I know the story on Stajan is that he is a great guy. That may be true, but he was a disappointment as a hockey player. The Flames made a terrible trade to bring him in and re-signed him at a terrible number.

I am sure this is an unpopular opinion, because CP clearly loves the guy.

I'm happy for him. One thousand games is a big achievement for any player.

The difference is who you blame for him not meeting expectations, or even who you blame for having those expectations. I hold that on the GM. It's not his fault that he is what he is. If he were traded for a 5th, I feel like your opinion would be different. From what I can tell, you hold the trade value and contract values lost against the player. I hold it against management.

Would you say the same about Brower?
All accounts say he is a good guy - a leader for the teams for which he has played. He plays well as a 4th liner. Are expectations that he be more than that unfair? Is his salary completely on the GM and not his responsibility to show that he deserves?

Man that GWG brought a tear to my eye. Just everything that happened that year and then the goal to top off a great night. I was at that game, the place went crazy!

What I would give to experience that again.

#MeToo

I've learned to be indifferent over the years rather than be irate about the trade and the fact that he was and (cough) is still useless on the Flames team. To be honest, if everything went well for the Flames, Stajan would never have the 1000th games with the current organization. Ah well, Flame on.

I will always feel what we lost in a declining #2 center we gained in an elite #4 center. And he never complained about his role, he just quietly did what was needed, day in and day out.

Honestly, to a extent yeah I don't dislike him overall, I obviously dislike the contract. However I do think he has more to give most nights, and those are the type of frustrating things that make me less fond of him than of a guy like Stajan

Stajan was a classic average player on a terrible leafs team that got top line & PP time. His point totals were bloated due to that in Toronto.

That being said, whatever he is and for whatever he wasn't, Stajan played his heart out wherever he played (Toronto, Calgary, top line to 4th liner). He was never the most skilled guy, and he always got rag dolled a lot, but he always got up and fought hard to remain in the league.

He seems like a great guy, enough to keep him as a NHL regular and not often even a healthy scratch.

Congratulations on game 1000. It's a remarkable feat looking back and how much i used to dump on the guy, even when he was here in toronto, and then after that epic fail of a trade.

Stajan was useful in his first couple of years at a decent price, it's only lately that his contract has been bad. If brouwer was here for 500 games and played the way he's playing now, at his price tag, for the last 2.5 seasons I'd probably overlook a lot of what makes him bad in the first place.

Stajan is who he is. I don't think he's ever carried himself like a first or second liner.
