$60M Lotto Max jackpot cheque makes 31 N.L. co-workers instant millionaires
http://calgarysun.com/news/good-news...a-f2feced8aee0
Surprised 26 of them are going to continue to work despite winning $1.94M each.
My group of 18 almost won the jackpot last Friday too. Got 6 out of 7 numbers. Our ticket won $5350, so about $297 each instead of $3.33M each. LOL
I would've given half to my extended family leaving ~$1.6M to my immediate family. $200k to each of my three boys in trust so would have $1M for me and my wife. $400k to the mortgage and $600k left over. So I too would have continued to work for a couple more years before retiring.
What would you guys have done if you won $1.94M or $3.33M?
Would you still work? Hookers and blow?

I'd keep working if I won anything less than $5 million.

2 million is my boarderline point.
I would probably change my career and work significantly less. Goal would be to have the 2 million grow with inflation and supplement the remainder of the interest with income. That's probably true of any win though would be to keep working until my kids were done high school just to set an example

I'd likely keep working. I do quite enjoy my job. It'd be nice not have money worries, though.

I'd buy a few properties for rental income and semi-retire. I'm under 40 with little children so i'd spend my time working part time, volunteering, and spending more time with my kids (and also volunteer at their schools).
Wife can keep working though :P

I wonder how motivated you could really stay at work if you didn't need the money. I am sure many people would get fired because of an diminishing work ethic and a generally less reason to stay diplomatic with your coworkers and boss.
Quitting is probably the best thing to do for the company and yourself.

I'd use my 1.9 million to buy dangerous drugs on the dark interweb, and then sell it at a healthy profit.
Then I'd take those healthy profits and buy and stockpile guns for the day that America finally finds the balls to ban or restrict guns, and then turn that into a bigger profit.
then I'd take that profit and buy a solid gold house and rocket car.

I also find it a bit selfish when people say they'd stay at their jobs because they like their job. I get it if you're an business owner/employer but there are many, many people who would love a job that they love (or any job at all).
Quit, make room for people who need the job and create something for yourself that you love.

Alright accountants and smart people... How much money would you need in the bank to live off the interest?
I'll say living off the interest is about $2000 a month (food, fun, bills). I'd say the mortgage/CC/cars are all paid off..

A modern day main battle tank is probably between 2 and 4 million bucks a copy. You don't expect me to buy used do you?

If you're living off interest you're doing it wrong.

Interest or dividends?
4% is a pretty easy, safe return rate if you invest it. So you're looking at 800k to get $2000 after taxes.
