Default What is this teams identity?

Been pondering over this for a few days now and I honestly don't think I can come up with anything that makes sense. Are they a hard working team that will outwork the opponent? Nope. Are they a skilled, fast team to play against? Not really when you look at our 3rd and 4th lines. Always earned never given? That's laughable. So... What would you say is this teams identity? or better yet.. what identity do you hope they create for themselves moving forward?

I guess a team that tries to get lucky bounces in 2-2 games that can go either way.

Well coiffed hair?

Seems to be a common theme in Canada lately...

Milquetoast...just like their coach. Even when they pretend otherwise they get exposed and shrink back.

I believe they won't win anything with him at the helm setting the tone.

Apprehensive, constantly second guessing themselves, undisciplined, boring.

Preach the underlying numbers all day long. Fact is those fancy underlying numbers do not equates to success.

The very last stat that matter most is wins and losses, and if you don't have enough points you don't make the playoffs. Beating opposing teams in the fancy stats department means nothing if they score more goals than you.

Base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy worsted-stocking knaves; lily-liver’d, action-taking, whoresons, glass-gazing, superserviceable, finical rogue; one-trunk-inheriting slaves; that wouldst be a bawd in way of good service, and art nothing but the composition of knaves, beggars, cowards, pandars, and the sons and heirs of a mungril bitch

Thanked the OP. I have wondered the same thing.

They are slow and look somewhat deliberate on the PP but frankly are not showing enough high end skill, or cohesion, to play a cerebral game.

Uptempo? Quick transition? Nope. That was the last coach.

The coach talks about 50-50 hockey. I believe that means to assess the play and basically if there is risk, back off. Seems to translate in to passivity.

If you look at momentum changes, they are not a team that you can say can be counted on to take over a game after a lacklustre start, but they sure can do the opposite, where one unfortunate event snowballs and the wheels fall off.

I see them winning the stats battle, but generating little in the way of sustained pressure with a high number of dangerous chances. (And I mean common sense, eye test danger, not using shot location as a proxy for danger)

They show flashes, but frankly the main theme is that they are inconsistent. Not a good identity to have.

Disappointing, I guess.

Concern over identity is one of those weird hockey memes that I think is overblown. You don't have to be unique, you don't have to be different, you don't have to be specialized - you just have to be good.

I don't think anyone knows and until someone finds out, this team will keep spinning their wheels in mediocrity.

If you are good as a team, then you probably do things well enough to set your team apart that people can ascribe an identity to your team.

When you are a team that needs to become good, it makes sense to have a philosophy to guide you, and around which you can rally, no?

Our identity: We're a 2 line team in a league where the best teams in the league are at least 3 lines deep. We've relied too much on our MVPs Johnny Gaudreau and Mike Mike Smith to bail this team out.

The Flames are a good, but not an elite team no matter how sky high the expectations were this season. They're about the same tier as the Sharks, Kings and Ducks in our division which I personally don't think there's anything to be ashamed of. When this team hits their peak and the rest of the Pacific starts to dip, we'll move into the upper echelon of the pack.

Mentally inferior.

That Vegas collapse at home probably was their undoing but they’ve been mentally weak all season
