Default 2018 Trade deadline day - Deadline at 1pm MT

Have fun everyone!

According to Capfriendly, the Flames have $1,870,105 in cap space which means they can add $8,695,988 in full season cap hits without sending salary out.

Flames picks:

2018
CGY 1st - traded to NYI
CGY 2nd - traded to NYI
CGY 3rd - conditionally traded to ARI if Flames don't make playoffs in 2018
CGY 4th
FLA 4th
CGY 5th - traded to ARI
CGY 6th
CGY 7th
DET 7th - conditionally acquired if Tom McCollum plays 15 NHL games

2019
CGY 1st -
CGY 2nd - conditionally traded to ARI if Flames make playoffs in 2018 otherwise traded to NYI
CGY 3rd -
CGY 4th
NYI 4th - conditionally acquired if NYI gets CGY's 2019 2nd
CGY 5th -
CGY 6th - traded to Carolina
CGY 7th

2020
CGY 1st -
CGY 2nd - conditionally traded to NYI if Flames make playoffs in 2018
CGY 3rd -
CGY 4th
NYI 4th - conditionally acquired if NYI gets CGY's 2020 2nd
CGY 5th -
CGY 6th
CGY 7th

23 man roster limits were lifted at midnight, which means teams can have more than 23 players on the NHL roster as long as they stay compliant with the salary cap.

Also of note, players need to be assigned to the AHL by 3pm ET to be eligible for the AHL playoffs or to even be sent back to the AHL for the rest of the season. Might see some paper transactions here.

After the trade deadline teams will only be allowed 4 regular call-ups until the playoffs. They still have unlimited emergency recalls.

Going to be an interesting day. Don't think the week leading up to the deadline has been as busy. Could be quite the flurry of action today.

I'm of the mindset the Flames are going to make not one, not two but three trades today.

Either we get a legit winger that can score or we do nothing. Worst thing we could do is get another useless bottom 6 player ala Zack Smith. And no goalies. With Smith injured, this is an ideal chance for Gillies and Rittich to show if the team can count on them in the future.

I'm curious what people watch. TSN or Sportsnet?
I watch TSN, but that's because they used to be awesome, now the silliness seems to be more important to them.

Murray Pam @Pammerhockey
Several Western teams in on Mike Hoffman and Zack Smith. Blues, Flames, Oilers, Sharks - Hoffman.
Flames, Golden Knights, Jets - Smith

Boomer and Warrener for me. Although if I was going to watch. It'd be wherever Bob McKenzie is. So TSN. also, Jay and Dan are back with TSN so maybe Jay cooks CTV anchor Bev some breakfast again.

How does one balance fatherhood with trade deadline day?

Scotch?

I thought Freidman killed the Zack Smith thing?

I'd love to have Hoffman but the price has got to be sky high for him. Please no to Zack Smith.

I am really hoping for a quiet day from the flames perspective.

Also hope the arms race stays out east

I'm going to be really disappointed if Karlsson isn't traded. I like drama and turmoil. Just not with the Flames. lol

per the Athletic:

It is skeptical that Kane will get the Sabres a 1st round pick. More realistic is 2nd + prospect. Might even drop further than that.

Mike Green has a full NTC and has agreed to waive for TB and WSH if a deal were to materialize.

I'd love to hear the rationale of signing Smith.

Everybody knows we need depth scoring. Does Smith provide that? What is the purpose of trading for him?
