Default Skiing 2017-2018

Winter is in the air, ski movies are debuting, and the snow plows are waiting at the off ramp to the 93 North.

Figured I'd kick off this season's ski thread with the lift deals Costco has to help with any purchasing decisions:

Norquay:
$99.99
(window price $148) - 2 Adult Tickets

[additional perks - 30% off child/youth passes, equipment rentals; 25% off tube park; 20% off lessons; 15% off food/beverage, stays at Banff Lodging Co.]

Revelstoke
$154.99
(window price $198) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - 30% youth/child tickets; 15% off equipment rentals; 30-35% off stays at Sutton Place and Sandman Revelstoke]

Fernie/Kicking Horse
$164.99
(window price $209) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - 25% off youth/child tickets; 20% off tube park; 10% off rentals, lodging]

Castle
$129.99
(window price $168) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - $40 off Cat Ski/Ride; 20% off child/youth tickets, lessons, equipment rentals, midweek accomodations; 10% off outerwear, 2x15% off lunch]

Nakiska
$126.99
(window price $170) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - 25% off youth/child tickets; 20% off tube park; 10% off rentals, lodging]

Kimberley
$119.99 -
(window price $160) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - 25% off youth/child tickets; 10% off rentals, lodging]

Sunshine
$168.99
(window price $230) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - $8 off youth / $5 off child tickets; 10% off coupon for retail shop]

Lake Louise
$165.99
(window price $208) - 2 Adult lift tickets

[additional perks - 20% off youth/child tickets; 25% off group lessons; 10% off kids lessons, LL merch, equipment rentals, equipment tunes, participating food outlets, rooms at Great Divide Lodge, additional savings on Lake Louise Inn, Fairmont Lake Louise, snowshoeing, and tube park]

Whitefish
Didn't get the info, but they do have 2 adult ticket packs.

Happy shredding!

Louise is $104 now, but Louise cards are still $109, which gets you a lift ticket, plus 6 more lift tickets at an average cost of $42 each. Plus some other stuff. I'm not sure why anyone would buy a ticket at the window, given what you get for five bucks more.

i have some friends coming from Scotland on November 18 and want to ski for 3 or 4 days in the mountains. I don't even know if the ski hills will be open. Are they open around that time usually? Where is their best bet?

Unless you're ski touring, I doubt anything will be open. There's always the chance of a freak storm that just dumps snow on everything, but even then, getting open in 2 weeks is a huge stretch. Probably looking at the first weekend in December.

Louise and Sunshine are both still scheduled to open November 10.

Louise looks like it has decent coverage so far, and Sunshine is showing close to a meter base, which isn't a stellar opening , but skiable. On the 18th they certainly won't be skiing the entire mountain at either, but will be able to get some turns in if they want.

Nothing else in AB or BC will be open until December.

Thanks for the detailed ticket pricing! We always have people asking about the Costco deals.

Got my Sports Rent October tune done and I'm ready to go!

Haloween sale for Sunshine Cards.

https://store.skibanff.com/ProductDe...718-SunSuperHS

$10 off the regular price ($99 down to $89). Only other time I've seen them on sale was Boxing Day last year.

Nice thing this year is they're actually selling them past Christmas, albeit at a higher price.

Bought my Fernie pass this year. Going to have a go at hitting the hill, and sledding in behind it on weekends. Anyone here use the first tracks program? I believe you need the Visa Infinite card? How does it work?

This should wet your whistle

This makes me so excited. I kitted out my wife and daughter at Max Bell last weekend or so.

My wife found a lease program through Nakiska for my son, $180 for the year to lease skis. I can't find the link now, but we pick up the skis at the start of the season and use them like they are his then return them.

We also got a family Nakiska pass $600.

How is Norquay? Compared to say Sunshine or Nakiska?

I'd say I'm a novice skier, but I much prefer the snow at Sunshine over Nakiska.

Not worth it unless you live in Banff IMO. If you're already heading out that far you may as well take the extra 15-20 minutes. It's not cheap enough compared to Sunshine/Nakiska to go.

Although toonie days are cheap, but they come with an interesting crowd.

Is that for boots too?

Does Sportchek still have the trade-in program? You used to be able to a setup for around $200 ($260 with boots) and get a 50% trade-in credit towards a pair next season as well.

Just to give anyone else the heads up Sports Rent is trying out seasonal rentals this year for JR gear. Skis are 127cm or smaller and cost is $140 including skis, boots and unlimited machine waxes. Also if your kid grows throughout the year free upgrades in sizes (again max ski size is 127cm).

Just talked to someone from Louise who thinks they will indeed open Wiwaxy on November 10th. Going to be a bit of a close one, as they need about 10 days to get things ready and will have just about exactly that much time with the weather finally cooling off.
