Just saw this today, and thought it was amazing. Maybe this has been around for ages, but its new to me.

Lance Armstrong is coming to Calgary - with his coach and an entourage from Team Postal, for a 2 day charity event. It'd be a little bit like scrimmaging with the Oilers in 1985.

Way out of my league for costs, which is fine, but if you happen to have a whole lotta ching and a love of cycling, how'd you like this:

For a minuimum $25,000 donation, participants in the September 26 Tour of Courage ride will receive:

A ticket to the Tour of Courage Fundraiser Dinner at the Hyatt Hotel (value of $500)
Luxurious motor coach transportation to Longview on Sunday morning
Pre-event bike inspection, tune and service at Ridley's Cycle in Calgary
Full compliment of cycling apparel from Trek and Nike Personalized limited edition Tour of Courage Jersey and Jacket
Pre-ride country brunch "meet and greet" with Lance Armstrong and USPS team members in Longview
Member of the peleton for the 120 km ride from Longview to Kananaskis Village led by Lance Armstrong, George Hincapie, Chris Carmichael, Johan Bruyneel and another soon to be named Postie
DVD record of the day
Leather bound photo album with individual pictures of the rider with Lance
Overnight accommodation at the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis
Post ride "team" dinner at the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis
Return transportation from Kananaskis to Calgary

Yeah Lance did something like this last year or the year before that. Except that time the schtick was that for a certain amount (Can't remember how much) you got to ride with Lance through downtown or something.

Except of course, Calgary being Calgary, it was freezing and snowing or something. The organizers were so worried about the bad publicity they ended up putting something together at Lindsay Park - on STATIONARY bikes.....

I knew someone that went to the dinner - heard it was amazing.

Soooooo for those of us on a budget:

- pick up 10 speed somewhere in Ogden (Texas T is a good place to begin your search)
- find spandex at local wal mart
- buy cheap jersey and helmet while there
- pick up ridiculously large Oakley knock off glasses at sev
- wait for entourage at the top of that really big hill on hiway 1

Start riding, and heckle away when the peleton gets close!! They should be somewhat out of breath by then, and if there is a problem pedal like mad down the other side of hill.

I wish I had the coin to do it. I'd have to tape over the "Lemond" sticker on my road bike, though.

Heh, I was thinking something along the same lines. Don't think they're going along the #1, though. But there's a good hill or two on the longview/kananaskis stretch.

No trip to Longview is complete though without a stop at Ian Tyson's Na###o Mug.
