Default A great article on David Rittich

Found this on the flames Twitter a really cool article
Not sure where 2 put it or how to link the article
FLAMES EXTRA - THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK
David Rittich's journey to the NHL has happened at break-neck speed and the affable Czech is loving every moment of it

Great article. For sure you have to watch those big guys like Johnny.

I was looking at the amount he was handling the puck and wondered if Smith was showing him some technique. I recall Smith saying that psycho Eddie (goalie from Chicago and Dallas) was the one that taught him how to handle the puck.
Just seemed like a natural action with Rittich

He's been very good for us and even showed a little emotion after being interfered with last game.
Wow. What a difference from last year. Now all we need to do is offer a little run support for our hard working goalies

You're thinking of Marty Turco.

In addition to be a feel-good story for Rittich this is also a good news story in terms of how far the Flames European scouting has come over the last few years. If an organization can find a decent free asset and turn it into anything every 2-3 years it's a real boost for the organizational depth and the urgency to acquire older, more expensive UFAs diminishes.

The Chronicles of Rittich

Love this guy's game action. I think he's the future Flames #1 goalie.

Rittich hasn't even hit double digits in GP, so very early for those kinds of predictions.

But it's a nice feeling that this doesn't seem like a ridiculous idea. At 25 he's still young too, for a goalie.

"From there, (goaltending coach) Jordan Sigalet took over. He loved his game after seeing tape. Immediately. To the point where you were going: 'Like, really, Jordan?'"
Since then, everybody, it seems, has taken a shine to David Rittich.
There's been radio silence from our fan base about Jordan Sigalet this season but on top of apparently understanding and promoting Rittich's skill, the save percentage and goaltending skill has been fantastic since Brad properly addressed goaltending this offseason.

So is Jordan Sigalet all of a sudden understanding how to be a great goalie coach after not understanding in past years or is a goalie coach way more beholden to the talent in front of them than most posters on here are willing to admit?

Its just typical fan base crap. When things dont go well they need someone to blame and the pitchforks come out. Sigalet was never the problem. It was the long line of substandard goalies that were put in front of him that was the problem.

I think this as a whole is a reflection of NHL coaching more generally: coaches receive far more credit than they deserve for a team's fortunes, and far more blame for their setbacks and shortcomings.
