Default O Canada Officially changed?

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/anth...nate-1.4513317

Looks like "All Thy Sons" will not be in the anthem anymore?

Its going to be weird hearing this "corrected" version

Hoping in the next 100 years we'll remove all references to god too.

That is of course after we discover aliens and they tell us the real truth.

Finally! I've been singing, "In all of us command" for at least two decades. I refused the version (which is NOT the original, by the way) which refers to all Canadians as "sons" instead of "us." Women are in, though years after including "God." May she be pleased, too.

Will anthem singers actually sing the new words?

I just wish the new lyrics weren't so grammatically awkward.

Sons doesn't even refer to men or women in this sense.

It's like getting upset for referring to humanity as 'mankind'.

My only objection as well - it makes absolutely no sense. I'm not sure I can bring myself to sing that. Although frankly, "in all thy sons command" is pretty awkward too. "Thou dost in us command" is archaic but at least it makes sense... go back to that, maybe?

Actually, let's just scrap the whole thing, change it to Northwest Passage and call it a day.

Wasn't someone also trying to get "Our home and native land" changed to "Our home and cherished land" because "native land" excluded immigrants?

We should just switch out the first two lines with the first two lines of the (never sung) second stanza: "O Canada! Where pines and maples grow. Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow."

We should just abandon all words to the anthem, or even a national anthem in general, because... why.

Are you kidding? A song that depicts women as swooning, man-obsessed creatures who aren't self-actualized? Good luck with that, you misogynist pig.

I mean, with Northwest Passage, you'd have to change "at the call of many men" somehow, but other than that, it's good to go!

Hopefully they're all so repulsed by the idea that they'll refuse and we can get rid of the anthems before the games.

I mean, they won't be, because the idea of being so repulsed is ridiculous, but I'm just hoping this can be a catalyst to get the games started a couple minutes earlier.

It makes sense, it's just kind of awkward. Canada is the subject, and the singers are the object. So Canada commands true patriot love in all of us. It just sounds weird because the verb is at the end, but that's how it has always been.

At this rate how about we just remove ALL the lyrics....because someone, somewhere is always going to have a problem with it.

Yeah, I think the issue is that it should be "commands", but that's already an issue with the existing wording anyway. Even then, as noted, it's super awkward and no one would talk that way; it's a song apparently written by Yoda. I reiterate my commitment to the Stan Rogers option.
