Marc Savard retires from hockey; last played in 2011
Quote:
Concussion issues officially have forced Marc Savard, who hasn’t played in a game in nearly seven years, out of the NHL. He announced his retirement Monday on Twitter.
Massively talented player. Just imagine if he never ran into the problems caused by unnecessary injuries caused by morons like Cooke, he'd perhaps be sitting on a HoF career today.
One of my favourite players (obviously). It's great to see that he managed to maintain a love for the game through all of his challenges. Hopefully he is healthy and lives a full and happy life post-retirement. It was a pleasure to watch him play.
Is also one of my favorites. Still have a game worn helmet and a autographed stick sitting in my room. Glad to read he is feeling better than he has in a long time. I recall reading some earlier articles a few years back and how much he was suffering with the effects of the injuries.
Savard and Iginla in their primes together.... what could have been. Sigh.

Ruslan friggin Zaynullin.
one of the worst trades in Flames history.

Hopefully he is healthy enough to enjoy the $28 million he made since his concussion, I know a fella who got concussed on a construction site and all he got was 10 weeks of WCB, 7 stitches in his head and a layoff notice to collect pogie.
Savvy ranks in my top 3 purely skilled Flames of the last 15-ish years.
1. JG
2. Kristian Huselius
3. Marc Savard
If only we had him with Iggy.
Wish him all the best. Would love to run into him at a bar some day.

I think he was the closest Flames player to hitting the Safeway Score and Win jackpot, I remember one game he had four goals and was so close to making it five.
This despite being saddled with linemates like Jason Wiemer while here.
