Finally Here! First Game at the Saddledome

Very much a selfish thread, but not sure where else to put this. My apologies if FOI is completely wrong for this...

But I've finally made the trip to see the boys at home. Been going to see them for years in Detroit, but we finally bit the bullet and made the trip out here. Since 1995 I've cheered my heart out for this team from afar, and we're jacked to be amongst friends cheering for the Flames. Getting a high five from someone other than my girlfriend when the Flames score will be a surreal feeling!

Let me know who of you are going to be at the next 3 games! I have no real specific reason to start this thread besides excitement, but it would be awesome to see some of you out there if it works out. Is there a bar everyone goes to ahead of the games?

We'll be at the Buffalo game tomorrow, the LA game and then to Edmonton to catch game 3.

What part of the city are you staying in? With all the games being mid-week, the pre/post game crowds won't be as good as they would be for weekend games.


Vagabond is a couple blocks north of the Dome (corner of 12th Ave and 4th St), and it gets a decent crowd before the games ($10 pizza before 5).

The Saddledome itself now has "Hockey Happy Hour" that starts 90 minutes before game time: https://www.nhl.com/flames/fans/happyhour. Cheap(er) food and drink on the concourse plus discounts at the Flames store.

^honestly do this “Hockey Happy Hour”, I’ve been to hundreds of games at the dome, and going early to hockey happy hour last month gave me a real appreciation for the dome (I no longer think it ‘needs’ to be replaced); really great atmosphere.

With that said it was New Years Eve

So, maybe not LA! At least not in the seats we just tried to get! StubHub will never be seeing a dime from me again.

CC we brought for these tickets hit it's tippy top after we bought tickets to the LA game, and I promptly got an email from StubHub:

"We found an issue after receiving the following order from your account.
For your protection, we've cancelled this order and temporarily locked your account. Please give us a call during the hours listed below and we'll help you fix this."

The CC is under the girlfriends name, and their security flagged it, cancelled the order and froze my account. No phone calls, no warning, just cancelled. The CC was also charged, so that money's frozen as well.

Only answer from StubHub: 'Sorry'. No offer to resolve it, no offer to hold the tickets while the money cleared off the CC again... nothing. After talking to a manager, I made light of the lack of sympathy that they've shown - so much that they haven't even offered a coupon! ...to which they offered a coupon. I made it very clear to them that I just flew 4 hours for this trip, rented a condo that overlooks the Saddledome, and this game was a big part of it. Just 'sorry, there's really nothing I can do'. Refused to have a manager fix this for us tomorrow when the banks were open, refused to hold the tickets we bought until we figure things out, nothing.

Anyway, still going to the Buffalo and Edmonton game. Still gonna get to the LA game I'm sure, but definitely not the seats we just bought!

TL;DR never buy tickets from StubHub

Update: thanks to timezones, we were able to sort everything out and get the sweet tickets. So section 109 if anyone else is in the area


StubHub was no help at all btw, definitely looking elsewhere for tickets in the future! Good site, but their ethics are atrocious

Welcome to Calgary! I'll be at tonight's game as well, but with my 5 year old, so you won't run into me the pub!

If you are still looking I have tickets for the LA game that I'd sell you for my cost, but they aren't the cheapest in the dome. PM me if you are interested. I personally think they are awesome seats but I'm highly biased. When I realized last night the game starts at 8:00 I figured my wife will kill me if I take our 10 year old, so this may be a win for everyone!

Sounds like I was to slow. Too bad, I probably could have got those tickets for you cheaper. I'm in section 108 Row 7, directly above the players walkway. Sounds like we'll be pretty close!
