Default Will Brouwer ever be scratched?

This year we've seen several vets around the league fall out of their coaches good books

Matt Beleskey
Matt Moulson
Even Brent Seabrook

Brouwer has been stinking it up going on 2 years now and anyone with a working pair of eyes can tell that he's not an NHL caliber player

Yet he gets prime PK time and for some reason has an A on his jersey

He's not the most frustrating player on the Flames (hi Sean), but to my eye, he's consistently the worst regular and it's usually not close. Every 2 weeks he'll show up and have a good shift or two but then he goes back to being awful. Will GG ever come to his senses and manage this liability properly?

Brouwer has played fine, certainly not the worst on the team

Not really his fault he was put out there for three short handed faceoffs in overtime

He's being set up for failure there. He's alright on the PK but definitely should not be the one taking faceoffs unless there's no other choice, the one scenario being Backlund/Stajan being waved out. Definitely should have buried that chance early though.

Why?

Its not like they never had the opportunity to replace him.

Tough to blame Brouwer for me. Gulutzan's the one who left him out there after a long shift to take a faceoff against a guy who is elite in the dot. That was just a bad coaching decision in my mind.

Theres lots of blame to go around, but I agree, I think most of it has to land on Glen.

He's so bad at hockey at this point that if he was a UFA next season he wouldn't get a job in the NHL. I'd put him in the realm of David Booth. No longer able to play in this league.

Maybe the Flames can lend Brouwer to the Canadian Olympic team. Like they did with Peplinski back in the 1900’s.

I was at the game and haven't seen the lowlights yet, but was he trying to spring backlund coming out of the box? Just seemed like an unnecessary risk for such a limited upside.

Can't blame Brouwer IMO. The coaches should have made the switch with 4 seconds left in the PK.

Gulutzan bench Brouwer lol if could he would give him the C.
His blind loyalty to Brouwer is something that I have never seen from a coach before. He is weird guy how he rolls out his 4th line regardless of the time or moment of the game. Just like how strange he is on Brouwer.
If he had 3 more Brouwers he would have one on each line.

Not in response to your comment. He has played quite well since Frolik was hurt

Maybe a Gulutzan deployment didn’t work out. He has not played up to his contract on the whole but his deployment has been all over the place.
