Pierre McGuire diagnosed with stage 1 Prostate cancer
Just a reminder to get screened regularly, it could save your life.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...er/1022047001/
Quote:
NBC analyst Pierre McGuire remembers the late Hall of Fame coach Pat Burns imploring him and others in the hockey coaching community to schedule regular colonoscopies. Now he will be the guy reminding coaches of the importance of prostate exams.
The announcement that McGuire has been diagnosed with prostate cancer was made before NBC Sports Network's "Wednesday Night Rivalry" game between the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks.
“I had no symptoms at all,” McGuire, 56, told USA TODAY Sports. “If I wouldn’t have had a physical, I would have kept going and I never would have known, because nothing was bothering me.”
McGuire said his doctor Michael Cohen noted an irregularity in his PSA screening during his yearly physical at Columbia Presbyterian and subsequent tests revealed a cancerous lesion. He worked the Blackhawks-New York Rangers game on Jan. 3, and then had the tumor removed the following morning.
Doctors determined McGuire has stage 1 cancer, and no chemotherapy is currently planned. McGuire expects to return to NBC next month for the Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Glad he was open about it. Good for him.
Really important to hear that he had no symptoms and it was caught early by a blood test.

uggghhhh. after this past summer anytime i hear of someone being diagnosed with cancer i just get this gross feeling in my stomach.
today i attended a funeral for a friend that recently passed away - cancer claimed another one of the good ones : |
i wish Pierre a speedy and complete recovery where he is totally cancer free.

After a couple weeks, the cancer won't be able to stand him a d it'll just leave.
I'm not his biggest fan but I still enjoy him. Hope he's around for a long time.

Know a few who have beat it due to early diagnosis. Great that awareness is finally getting there to literally save lives.
Hopefully he doesn't lose his hair.

Cancer needs to be hit hard in the face with a chair.
Wow. Bad news for another person. Hope he beats it . This guy is pretty passionately involved in hockey and it would be sad if we lose another person to this disease

I never understood the hate some people have for him. He might act a bit odd, but he's probably the most knowledgeable hockey commentator I've ever heard. He knows stories and stats no one else does. I'd give anything to have him on the Flames' broadcasts.
Best of luck to him in his fight. Sounds like he was smart and it's getting handled.

People with a high profile who open up about this stuff and credit regular physical exams for catching it are likely saving lives. Men should take note and get checked, and I bet many do because of people like The Monster McGuire.
Hopefully early prognosis give him more than a great chance to beat it.

Outside of a brief time when he was on the Oilers bandwagon proclaiming they had something special going, I've always liked Pierre. Hope he gets through this without issue.

Pierre could routinely aggravate and annoy as a broadcaster, but over time I found this to be the result of his undeniable enthusiasm.
The man loves hockey, he loves everything about it and it bleeds into everything he does. He operates at 100% intensity all the time and that can be grating at times, but in the end you cant blame him.
I like Pierre, I dont always agree with him (See: Oilers) but thats fine.
He loves hockey and I find him to be a really good broadcaster and an exceptional analyst.
So...#### Cancer and get well soon Pierre. I envision many more years of his enthusiasm.
