Icon33 Red Fisher passes away.

@FriedgeHNIC: RT @MichaelFarber3: Sad news. Red Fisher, the chroniquer and conscience of hockey, died today. He was 91.

Fisher started on the Canadiens beat in 1955 in the era of train travel and finished it in 2012 when reporters tweeted the lines at morning skates. The man knew how to make an entrance: the first game he covered was the Richard Riot, that singular marriage of hockey, sociology and, ultimately, mythology that has marked Quebec for generations. Fisher was the link to the most glorious of the Canadiens teams — he never would refer to them in print as the Habs, one of several unwritten Red Rules — and covered 17 of their record 24 Stanley Cups.

Sad.

Definitely an icon. The story link is an awesome read.

His wife of 69 years passed away 10 days ago.

definitely an icon

not one whose writing I always agreed with or enjoyed, but that is for another day

his work spanned such an amazing range of sporting events and eras

RIP

I respect him but he really lost his marbles in the back half of his career. Still was an Eastern Canadian icon.
