Default Things may not be as bleak as they would seem.

Interesting article. Gives me some hope for the rest of the season. Perhaps a savvy trade by B.T. could be just what this team needs to turn the tide.

Once again. Something on paper that doesn't relate to what happens on the ice.

It's almost as if guys are just collecting paycheques. We have seen games where the flames look like giant killers and then the next game just couldn't beat junior team.

Yeah we have half the season left but something other than waiting for something BIG to happen needs to happen.

I want to see them succeed. I don't think they care enough.

Show me flames. Just too many passengers.

This is a totally new and insightful opinion. I think we can all agree that we're thankful you shared this important and unique view point. Our day is more complete for having brought this to everyone's attention. Thank you.

Not sure if I agree. Yes, the flames have had a brutal shooting %. However, there is no reason to believe that it should magically trend back a norm this season. I mean it could, but there's no guarantee whatsoever.

The flames almost never playing with a Lead sure sounds right. Every game where they have actually shown up is usually tight until they give up a pp goal or make that one mistake that ends up in their own net....

With this opinion being underserved in discussions on this site, it's about time someone started a dedicated thread about the coach's performance to date. Maybe other threads could bear this in repeating, even if it appears off topic. I'm sure many of us are dying to hear more.

Why you so angry? My comment had nothing to with you. Maybe you should start your own thread that are only for GG supporters? From the GG poll there is not many of you around CP.

Some interesting looks at advanced stats paint an optimistic view of the Flames. Everything seems to suggest Calgary is playing quite well, just not getting the bounces.

All I see is the adjacent Oilers in each chart. Ew.

Not only that he also screwed up the new arena deal. That distraction can't be helping anyone. Thanks a lot GG.

No idea about any of this fancy stat stuff but there is no doubt that the Flames have been one of the best teams defensively over the past 10 or 12 games. That's a pretty good stretch. Now, obviously the offense needs to step up but if they have nailed down their defensive system they can start to tweak the offense which I think they have done.

It's not great by any means and a lot of work and some luck is needed but the Flames are a decent run away from being right back into it.

Thank you for sharing this. I am generally a strong endorser of advanced stars, but this is starting to make me realize that there is a lot more to the drunk guy-lamp post analogy than I had previously considered.

Based on these graphs I would word my new theory as follows. There are those teams that have good advanced stars as a result of their play and those teams that focus their play on achieving high advanced stats.

I believe the Flames, Oilers and likely San Jose are the later, whereas Tampa Bay and Nashville are the forner. The eye rest would suggest that neither the Oilers or Flames are just a bit of an puckluck correction to the norm away from being a top team. Any statistics showing this are clearly missing a core component of team performance.

I think a trade could work. Not a huge shake up, but one that could help us on the forward side of things. Last year we traded for Stone, and we went on that huge winning streak. Perhaps a trade triggers this team to play well once again.

Wow those charts make me think that advanced stats are pretty useless just on their own with no other context.
