Default Ex-Oilers coach Craig MacTavish fired by KHL club just 8 games into season

Moving back into the Oiler fold soon no doubt.

Normally a guy like Mac T would fade into the sunset, but instead he will probably augment an already impressive hockey ops group up in Edmonton.

He has more experience on his resume than when he left Edmonton, so it's a no-brainer to rehire him there.

Aside from still having the stench of Edmonton failure on him (which the KHL team knew ahead of time of course), there has to be some interesting info behind the firing. Sure, a 3-5 record sucks, but you usually give a new coach a little more time to prove himeself, no?

In the coaching staff of the “railroad” is Dmitry Krasotkin, who won everything with the youth team “Loco”, but they are not in a hurry to appoint him the main one in “Locomotive”.

McTavish was never a specialist in working with young talents. Moreover, experienced hockey players began to regress with it. Take the same Daniil Apalkov, who spends on ice less than 10 minutes per game and scores almost no points (just one assist). In the match with Jokerit, Apalkov was not in the squad. Not the best hockey is demonstrated by Yegor Averin. Famous legionnaires are also acidifying.

Problem solved - he can add to the Oilers' management depth... you know, he knows a thing or two about winning... not as much as Lowe, but still, 2/3rds as much.

Ex oiler players seem to light it up where ever they go after leaving that #### hole.

Ex oiler management types? Not so much.

Baffling.

This entire situation seemed strange from the start. Like did someone in Russia owe Ken Holland a favour and took MacT off his hands but then quickly realised they made a huge mistake? Just odd.

I imagine one of his superiors questioned his methods and he responded with the typical Oilers pomp. Don’t you know who I am? I know a thing or two about winning.

To which they responded with a foot in the ass.
