Default Sliding Doors

Does anyone know of any suppliers/showrooms where I can look for different options of modern, ceiling mounted sliding doors (barn doors)? I'm looking for some sort of glass or wood style door for a closet. It will be a floor to ceiling type installation.

You can order this stuff through Home Depot. I just put one in myself. They have some of it in stock, but only a few basic models/sizes.

I got this custom done at Home Solutions. They came out to measure and can be made to any size. ~$1800

Does it open automatically and make the Star Trek sound as it opens?

Thanks. I'll check out Home Solutions. I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive though.

I've used this company for a client before. A little more rustic but he might be able to do more modern if requested. Was about $1k

Or find a custom door guy and order some hardware.

We got a couple of barn doors installed in our house by http://www.slidingdoorscalgary.com

They did a pretty good job and I will definitely recommend them.

AMG_G: I assume for that price, and given that that's apparently a glass door between a TV room and a shower, that it's electrochromatic glass? IE: frosts when closed.

No it is not that electro chromatic glass. We used it to separate the master bath and the master bedroom. Just looked at the paper work. The price also includes the other 10 mm piece on the other side. This is star fire glass so it is more expensive because it doesn't have that green tint to it.

The other side looks like this

This is another option if you want the glass look.

Bumping an old thread.

The wife wants a barn door in our new place. Anyone have any updated recommendations?

Glass will always be more expensive than a wood product.

I put in a sliding barn door earlier this year to cover the door opening in my master ensuite.

Its a pretty easy job. And I massively suck at anything handy. You can do it!

I got my stuff from Windsor Plywood. It was about $400 for the door and the track. The door I got was wider 34" x 80", made of wood with 4 frosted glass windows in it. Kind of like this.
Spoiler!

If you're just looking for standard 30" x 80" or 32" x 80" keep checking the Home Depot or Lowes flyers. They are always on sale.

The main thing is getting the track mounted on studs. The door and hardware are really heavy.

The holes in the track probably wont line up with your studs, so you'll have to do 1 of 2 things.

1) Cut out the drywall above the opening, install wood backing, and then re-do the drywall. Then you can mount the track directly into the backing. Too much work.

2) Put a piece of nicely painted wood on top. Screw that into the studs, patch and paint the holes, then mount the track onto this thing. Like this.

If you go this route, make sure the wood you choose isn't too thick. The one I picked was so my door is a bit farther out than I'd like.

The rest is just measuring, and drilling.

Like I said, not a bad little DIY project!

I came here hoping for a discussion of the movie of the same name as this thread title. I'm disappointed.
