Wrong address for Canada Post delivery.

Made my first ever EBay purchase, using PayPal to pay. Despite just setting up the PayPal account with my current address, apparently my old address was stored with EBay, and the package has been shipped to that address.
Apparently Canada Post won't forward parcels, so getting a forward service is a lost cause.
Is my only hope knocking on the door of the old place, explaining the situation to whomever is there, and hoping they are kind enough to let me know when it arrives?
Entirely my fault, but it's not an item you can just go out and buy again.

I would go to the house with box of chocolates, explain the situation and leave your contact info. Make it clear they don't have to do anything except text you when it arrives and you will pick it up yourself.

A couple weeks after I moved into my place, boxes of hardwood flooring was dropped off at the house. I called them to let them know. Turns out they forgot to change the shipping address on their Costco.ca account.
