Oilers/Leafs swap snipers and tenders
The Edmonton Oilers have sent Jaroslav Halak and Thomas Vanek to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Steve Mason and Craig Smith. The cap difference was sent to Toronto this year, and 2 mil is being sent to Edmonton for next year.
Halak and Mason are pretty much the same for this season and while Mason has an expensive contract for next season, our hope is he bounces back and the 2 mil for next year will relieve it a bit. Smith is a downgrade on Vanek this year, but we think Smith will rerate well.
