Well so much for Russia getting an automatic gold medal in hockey. Now for the ####show that will be all of the non-Russians playing in the KHL who will play in the Olympics, no chance that the league simply lets them leave without any penalty
How do you do hockey if they are competing as individuals? no coach, players wear what they want, jump onto the ice whenever they feel like it, no one wants to play goal like a game of under 5 soccer?
When do they take away all their medals from Sochi?
Quote:
More than two dozen Russian athletes have been disqualified from the Sochi standings as a result, and Olympic officials are still sorting through the tainted results and rescinding medals.

At the coming Games, Mr. Bach said Tuesday, a special medal ceremony will reassign medals to retroactive winners from Sochi. But, in light of legal appeals from many of the Russian athletes who have been disqualified by the I.O.C., it is uncertain if all results from Sochi will be finalized in time.
In some ways I'm more curious about this year's hockey tournament than I'd be for a "real" Olympic version. The last few big tournaments have been boringly predictable with Canada just being so ahead of everyone else. This should inject some unpredictability, and you know that whoever plays will be putting it all on the line. It's a tv-movie waiting to happen.
I'd rather them err on the side of caution here, so good move. One of the Canadian xc-skiers was on the radio explaining that revoking medals never really serves justice to the clean athletes. For instance, if you have skiers qualifying for the final, and say 2 of the 6 spots are taken by dirty Russians that are later DQ'd, well those 2 spots sat empty that other athletes never even got a chance to compete for the medal in the final.
So if we run the risk of disallowing clean Russian athletes through this process, well I'm OK with that.

Come on Turkmenistan!
I'd laugh forever if the Koreans won it by trotting out a team of retired NHLers.

I can't wait to see the opening day ceremonies. The team of neutral marches in, they've named Blahbistan Blabinova with the extreme honor of being the flag bearer as the dull grey flag flaps in the wind and the fans in attendance respond with a solid standing bleah.
Later on one of the Neutral athletes wins a gold medal and stands up on the podium with tears running down his or her face as the national anthem is played which is an open cord E for three seconds.
