Flames Flames recall Rittich

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
If you’re looking for clues on #Flames new backup goalie, I️ just helped David Rittich find the security entrance at the rink in Dallas.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
The 25-year-old Rittich has a 5-1 record this season at AHL Stockton with a 2.17 GAA, .931 save percentage and a pair of shutouts.

it'll be great to see how he does with the team. He wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm still happy with it.

This is great news. I have a good feeling about Rittich. This could be the beginning of something beautiful.

He can't be worse that Lack. So there is that.

Maybe he steals the #1 job from Smith.

Just in case you forgot how awesome Rittich's pads/mask are:

As much as everyone here would love that, Smith has been the team MVP through 1/4 of the season. Almost no chance that happens.

Want to see Rittich start the Aves game.

37 games dominating the AHL
7 SOs
0.925 sv%
2.25 GAA
20-12-1
25 years old.

Looks like the exact kind of goalie prospect that has earned a shot. Excited to see what he can do (can't be worse than Lack).

He's earned it. Not saying he will be the next Matt Murray but you never know until you give the guy a chance. It would be really nice to see a goaltender finally break out of the Flames system into NHL success.

One has to think that the Avs game is the entire reason for the timing of these moves.

well deserved. Hope he has a great game against the Avs and stays for good as Smiths backup ... obviously the AHL is very different from the NHL, but Rittich has shown there that he doesn't need a heavy workload to perform well.

Best news since Jagr was signed. I've been saying this guy should be our backup since last season and now he's finally getting that chance. I know he won't end up playing a ton of games but he has shown he can be a solid backup in the AHL.

I hope he does well. I still think Gillies has the higher upside (and Parsons even moreso).

Ha...no. Unless Smith gets injured, he's earned the starting job time and time again this year.

I haven't seen a battler like Smith in net since...well Kipper but he never really needed to battle that much. He was just good. I always thought of Vernon as a battler because he wasn't exceptionally talented, but he brought it when the team needed him most.

I assume he starts tomorrow. Keep the goals against at or under 3 and we might have something.

I don’t know who the Avenues are, but they sound like a bunch of street thugs, and I don’t want them running our goalies!
