Ferland is sending a message to Jagr that you can't have my spot on the top line.

For some reason, Bingo, your lines include Jagr instead of Frolik. I imagine you'll want to fix that.

I don't think Mike Green plays for the Devils. Maybe Andy Greene?

Thanks guys

Was bracing for Gulutzan comments from the story, so I guess missed first names and botched lines is getting off easy

By the way, I loved the write-up as a whole, and the ‘Odds and Ends’ is much easier on the eyes with the paragraph breaks. Thanks!

Great write-up as always. I too really like the spaces to break things up in the odds and ends.

Not Giordano's night for sure, but he has been their best Dman all year, by a large margin, so I give him a pass.

The idea, when bringing in Hamonic but still signing Stone, was that it's a long season and there are inevitably injuries. With a 5th Dman of that caliber, the team should be able to keep right on going if/when they experience an injury. Well, I think we saw last night the wisdom in that.

Stone needs to get benched. With 6 shots and a couple wide he clearly doesn't understand the concept of pass at all costs. ;-)

Nice write up again Bingo.

I do hope we see Andersson over Bartkowski next game. Bart is okay as the 7th guy but I don't like him in the line up if the Flames can help it. I really like Stone's shot from the point and really hope to see him get some PP time as well.

Thanks Bingo.

I have also noticed a perplexing inconsistency between what counts as scoring chances and what seems to me should count. Is there a breakdown in the numbers you are using as to what is and is not a "scoring chance"?

"The Flames looked to be in for a long night at one point but then they bottled up the defensive zone, and closed the gap between the forwards and the defense allowing the defense to jump on the Devil’s quick forwards in the neutral zone without issue. You’d hope the Flames aren’t a slow team, and they showed that with their push back."

I would agree with Eric Francis in the broadcast who said that the Flames are "average" in terms of team speed. But I would also suggest that they seem to be well constructed to counter and beat very fast teams. It will be interesting to see as the season progresses, and they may yet continue to struggle with larger, "heavier" teams (i.e. the Blues), if the Flames can continue to neutralize speed this effectively this should make them pretty successful this year.

I think the biggest early season issue was the gap between the forwards and the defenseman. This can happen for two reasons ... 1) lazy forwards 2) forwards that are too jacked and anticipate what hasn't happened yet. I think even Jagr spoke to it before he got hurt. Easy to fix on hard working teams (last three years), harder to fix on stubborn teams (Iginla's last few years).

the scoring chance thing ...

many sites have maps that show you "scoring chances", but that metric is far too liberal for my liking. I prefer HDCF which suggests a high danger shot attempt and is a much tighter metric.

For example the Flames last night had 64 shot attempts in all situations, 35 "Scoring chances" which is far too high, and then 10 HDCF. Shot attempts and Scoring chances are mapped, but you can't see what the 1 second period HDCF isn't described.
