Canucks send Olli Joulevi's butt back to Finland.
Tkachuk pick keeps looking better and better.
The Vancouver Canucks picked defenseman Olli Juolevi fifth overall in the 2016 NHL draft, but his development has stalled after two seasons in North America. So they sent him home to Finland in the hopes he can get back on track.

Actually they sent him back to Finland because he isn't eligible for the AHL, and there was some dispute between the agreement with the CHL-NHL because he was part of the import draft. I believe the Canucks had to offer him back to the Finish club team first.

It's too bad for them they couldn't send him to the AHL so they could monitor his development more closely. He's the guy I was petrified the Flames may pick if things ahead of them go differently. IMO he just didn't stand out in any area as elite or top end.

The Wizard rarely gets it wrong. He took Tkachuk and then a year later took Valmaki - who is a Joulevi equivalent if not better!

Yeah with the way Juolevi has been trending I wouldn't trade Valimaki for him.

You were calling him a great prospect just months ago...did he trend down that much in a few months?

He has great upside, that hasn't changed. But he is trending the wrong way. His coach calling out his attitude. His play in preseason. The attitude stuff worries me more than his hockey ability. If the kid is too entitled or too cocky he may never work the way he needs to to make the NHL. He still has a lot of upside. But there's more reasons to be worried about him than Valimaki. And I think Valimaki might've been a bit of a steal where we got him.
Juolevi can be both a great prospect and trending the wrong way. Juolevi can be a great prospect and not be worth trading Valimaki for because Valimaki is also a great prospect. So I'm not sure how what I said is inconsistent. We have new information on Juolevi in the last month. His coach ripped him for his attitude and he disappointed in training camp after having a tread water junior year. He's a great prospect that is trending in the wrong direction. It's somewhat worrying for Canucks fans. IMO at this point Valimaki is the better bet to be an impact dman. IMO I wouldn't trade Valimaki for Juolevi.

In all honesty, it sucks for Vancouver, it sucks for the kid who should be able to play in the 2nd best league in the world. It sucks for the London Knights as they would take him back, though he may be better off playing pro in Finland. A crappy situation all around.
I wanted Tkachuk more than Joulevi at the time, but was resigned to the likelihood we'd be getting Joulevi. This kid will still be a good NHL defenseman. Very few D-men make an NHL impact this young.

All of this of which you say "sucks", does not in fact suck at all.

At first I thought you were kidding but now I am not so sure. You know, considering that you can't even spell the mans name.
