Default Hockey Central: WC playoff prediction (Flame optimism)

Flames got a decent chunk of discussion in this fairly short video

Its going to be tight. can't take L.A out of the equation. SJ really didn't do much in the offseason but again, cant count them out.

Dallas SHOULD...SHOULD make it with that forward grouping and Bishop.

STL and the Jets would be the coin flip. And yeah Minnesota.

I don't think the Flames miss the playoffs, but its not going to be easy.

Anaheim could take a step backwards too. they've shown signs of slowing down.

Well at least we have that win against the California Golden Seals to hang our hats on!

Win in Anaheim. Just do it. Put an end to this Voodoo nonsense. Win in Anaheim.

We need someone willing to do something unthinkable like kick a baby through football uprights or something to ensure a win in Anaheim.

I hope the Flames didn't trade away top picks to be a bubble team...it really shouldn't be tight

They made it with Elliott in net and no Hamonic

They should be 10 points better IMO

There's 30 other teams to play against and some got better. Flames need to get at least two wins each out of EDM and ANA alone

well no they don't...I mean I hope they do but they certainly don't HAVE to do that to make the playoffs obviously

Point totals for the playoffs are always about the same...barring major injuries the Flames have no excuse not to be in the mid 90s at the very least

they should be over 100 points...they played at that pace most of last season

a few teams are better and a few teams are worse...like always

Season preview on NHL radio had Flames at 13th overall coming into the season and God bet to make the playoffs. Of course they don't follow Flames as closely as most on here but some of those guys watch and follow a ton of hockey. They had Penguins, Oilers and Ducks as 1,2,3.

That's pretty much a guarantee.

The Pacific is going to depend on how injuries fare in the Western Conference. With St. Louis having quite a few injuries, Nashville with Ellis out, Edmonton with Sekera, LA, Dallas and AZ with a new system, and Winnipeg/Calgary with new goaltender(s), the West is pretty wide open right now. You can't count anyone in or out (except for maybe Vegas, Vancouver and Colorado).

Not too worried about the rest of the western conference. IMO it's all about the Flames taking care of business. As long as they get off to a better start they should be fine. They just have to avoid the fumbling and bumbling in October/November that has put them behind the pace in some other recent seasons.

It’s going to be a war of attrition right to the bitter end this year. We will have to hit the pedal to the metal right from the start and not look back. IF the goaltending holds up we should be fine

I'm not sure that handing the Pacific Division to Edmonton is a sure thing. Pretty much everyone has done that.

I'm very cautiously optimistic we'll get that good start the team will need. But pretty much every season it's the same hope, only to have the team stumble out the gate. In addition the goaltending this preseason hasn't given me any reason to think things will be different then last. Then again, Elliott was the preseason Vezina champ last season, so maybe the opposite will happen.

I'd love nothing more then for the Flames to come out like gangbusters. But I have the feeling it will be another season of digging themselves out of a hole as the season goes along.

Personally I don't see this team (or any NHL team) as a playoff lock. Parity is what the league is now. I feel the Flames are going to have to battle and there will be no easy games.

Remember Edmonton is only 1 major injury to a key player /MVP and they are out.

If they lose their MVP (Talbot) they would surely fall back to being a lottery team.

Given the ages of our key players, improvement should be pretty much the default.

You can make that case for many teams. Price in MTL is a perfect example.
