New list - Best evil Organizations in TV and Movies
I haven't done one of these in a while and wanted to do a new one.
We all love villains, scenery chewing bad guys with insidious plans or goals of revenge. But sometimes there's just a shadowy evil organization maneuvering things in the background. I'm not even talking about overt Military Groups or even whole governments, but that menace in the background with a plan that might be centuries long. As always, I'm only putting ones in from shows or movies that I've seen. But here's my list of evil incoporated.
1) Spectre - You can start without the shadowy organization of shadowy organizations. Spectre or Special Executive for Counter Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. This organization is special for its depth and it ability to bounce back time and time again from near defeat. Its plan was to destabilize the world, cause a war between the East and West and seize power in the Chaos. What made this group frightening was that they were apolitical, they weren't communists, or conservatives or fascists, they had one goal in mind and that was power. They were also highly funded as they always seemed to have some kind of super lair, super laser or other massive weapon of destruction.
2) The Syndicate - What happens when your powerful and your power means nothing in the face of overwhelming defeat. This was the basis of the Syndicate a group founded shortly after the incident of Roswell, New Mexico. When faced with the prospect of an overwhelming Alien Invasion this group lead by government officials and collection of the rich and powerful, surrendered the Earth and began working with a alien invasion to facilitate the end of the human race, but it would spare their lives. Working from within the government, the Syndicate began to work on the creation of a human alien hybrid species that would act as slaves to the new Alien Overlords and the members of the Syndicate would survive the alien invasion and have power in the new world order. With terrifying henchmen like the Cigarette smoking man who among other things made sure that the Soviets didn't win in Lake Placid in 1980 and backed by Men in Black and Supersoldiers. The Syndicate were the embodiment of enemy sympathizers until they were destroyed.
3) The Sith - "Two there are no more and no less, one to embody power and one to crave it". The Sith were originally dissident Jedi who explored the use of the Dark Side of the Force until they were banished by the Jedi. Surviving this banishment the Sith founded a new Empire until the Republic lead by the Jedi fought a holy war and tried to exterminate the Sith. They survived and reformed to become a shadowy organization that featured two members a master and a apprentice. From there, their goals were the acquisition of power and the destruction of the Jedi. Pulling the string from the shadows the Sith tipped the galaxy to darkness, and then using the levers of government, gained revenge and destroyed their ancient enemies the Jedi and ruled the Galaxy.
4) Hydra - One of my favorites. Founded after the second world war, Hydra was based on the concept that people crave an orderly and secure society, however they also needed to willingly give up their freedom. So Hydra worked from the shadows and like a cancer infiltrated the highest levels of government and of Shield while destabilizing the planet and sowing chaos so the people would eventually see that freedom was secondary to being safe. Hydra effectively germinated out of the ruins of Shield and were willing to murder thousands to save Billions.
5) Wolfram and Hart - One of the best evil organizations out there, a evil law firm. Founded by three demons Wolfram in Hart employed thousands of lawyers across dimensions with the implicate goal of bringing forth the apocalypse that would bring about hell on earth. Wolfram in Hart did everything evil but within the law. Keeping the worst evil out of jail, corrupting governments, running and supporting evil organizations like the Circle of the Black Thorn. While the lawyers were also corrupted with power and money if they didn't perform throughout the year they were usually dealt with during the Annual Review.
6) The Borg - A different sort of enemy until they were ruined. Originally the Borg were a hive species that went around assimilating other species and adding their technology and distinctiveness to their own. They were brutal in their goal of basically creating one universe where all served the one, and they were horrifying in their ruthlessness and their ability to use their technology to overwhelm and assimilate. Sadly the concept of many voices are one, when they introduced the queen and then were further wrecked completely by Voyager, but the original Borg were eerie and dangerous and the thing of nightmares.
7) The League of Shadows - A terrifying group of assassins who serve justice over all. A group that could kill you, or suborn you, the league of shadows had the money and power as well as a trained team of mercenaries and killers. Their goal was simple. Balance the scales of justice. In order to prove that justice is served they had the ability to wipe corrupt societies and civilizations off of the map usually using the very evil that they claimed to fight.
8) Cyberdyne systems - The faceless corporate entity who caused the end of mankind. Cyberdyne wasn't overly evil, but they did cause the end of the world and became the cradle that birthed Skynet. Originally their goal was to create cumputer products including using advanced AI to automate the United States defense of North America. Along the way they discovered a chip from the future and incorporated its design and code into their products in a irresponsible manner without understanding what that technology did. Then they popped the champagne bottles and flicked the switch and killed humanity.

SD-6 and the Alliance of Twelve. Arvin Sloane was a great evil mastermind, running SD-6 as a black ops division of the CIA but in reality working against the US government. One of my favorite shows.
Weyland-Yutani Corporation (Alien, Aliens) - Divert unwitting commercial crew to investigate potentially dangerous (but profitable) alien life form. When that goes horribly wrong, send civilian colonists to planet anyway. When that goes wrong, try to infect rescuers with alien embryos and smuggle them back to earth.
