Default So you find a stranger's wallet... What do you do?

I'm curious how people in general would act in the scenario:
(Mods, please add an anonymous poll)

You park your car in an underground parking lot and as you head towards the elevator lobby, you noticed a stranger's wallet on the ground between two parked cars. You don't recognize the cars belonging to anyone you know and assuming you opened the wallet, you dont recognize the person on the ID. You also don't see anyone in sight and no cameras are in the lot. There's a hundred dollars in the wallet

Do you:

A) Leave the wallet and it's contents intact where you found it and move on with life

B) Take the wallet with you and bring it to the police/the building's reception/drop it off at the address on the ID AND leave the contents intact

C) Like A but you pocket the cash

D) Like B but you pocket the cash

E) Keep the wallet, pocket the cash and dispose of the whole wallet at a safe place

Use the money to buy pizza, assume the identity of the person for special occasions.

That's the idea of an anonymous poll because as good as B sounds,
I dont think many would honestly choose B if that situation presents itself, especially in this economic climate where many are living in financial hardship.

Who's the say the cop or building receptionist won't pocket the money themselves?
And if you honestly would deliver it to the owner at their address, would you make a half hour drive to their home?

I've been on both sides of this situation. I found a wallet on a bench at Bankers Hall. Took it to security. What happened after that, I have no idea, but I know I did what I should have done and I took nothing from it.

Last fall I walked off and left my own wallet on a bench a few blocks away. Our family had gone for a long walk and we'd stopped for a quick rest on the bench outside a business. About 20 minutes after we got home, someone knocked on our door and when I opened it the man standing there handed me my wallet and said "I think you might need this" - I hadn't even realized yet that I'd left it. Everything that was in it when I left it behind was still in it for which I was very grateful.

Easy, B every time. I lost my wallet last year in a supermarket parking lot. Didn't notice until I was at my next destination and went to pay. Total panic sets in as i just lost all my credit cards, and I.D. Someone found it, turned it in at the store, store clerk looked in wallet and found a blank check with my phone number on it and called my house before I made it back home.

Pay it forward, what comes around goes around, karma...call it what you will but it's just the right thing to do. You would make someones day.

90% would pick D, the other 10% just don't need extra money. If it were my wallet I would give anyone the $100.00 and a bonus bottle of wine just to return the ID

Returning it to reception or some security guys in a booth will likely lead to the same outcome as leaving it on the street.

I'm gonna look through the business cards/errata/random stuff in the wallet and establish a points based system for judging them as a human in order to inform my decision.

EG: Business card for pet grooming? Responsible pet owner +2 points. Professional portraits of self and pomeranian? Insufferable twat -3 points. Multiple Capital One cards? Probably in debt and needs a break +2 points. Multiple Gold/Platinum Cards? Eff you, 1%er -4 points. Flames memorabilia +10 points. Oilers memorabilia minus one billion.

Return the wallet every time. We can tell a lot about people who don't pick option B. It means they're awful humans.

I've actually come across a couple wallets in my time. Went with option B. I've lost a couple things that way and it's a great feeling when humanity pulls through for you.

Just a couple months ago I got a new iPhone. Hadn't had it for more than a couple weeks before I left it sitting on my table in Tim Horton's in downtown Vancouver. I didn't realize for a good 45 minutes. I was sure it was gone. I went back and someone had given it to the staff.

Pay it forward.

Strange that this is even a question. But a lot of things have been happening lately that have me second guessing my assumptions about human nature.

Let's up the difficulty...what if you just find $100 between the cars, no wallet?

So the question here is; is the poll also anonymous to the moderating team? Don't need anyone peaking!

Anyway, the correct answer is try to return the wallet, same thing with a phone. Respect the privacy of the persons item; but try to get it back to them. And 100 bucks is hardly worth the guilt.

First check age and sex for dating potential. Decide course of action based on that.

Kidding, of course B

Personally return it with all contents, people are easy to find and I don't trust anyone else to pocket the money. Wouldn't ask for a reward, wouldn't accept one more than $20.

Actions define character, and good character is more valuable than easy money.

Mine would be a variation of B, before B. After seeing the person's name on their ID, I'd first look to see if they're on social media and could send a direct message saying I found their wallet.

I'm surprised anyone would do anything different as well. Who wants that sort of karma?

Find a wallet with ID - return to individual/take to police
Find a wallet without ID - take to police/lost and found in that area
Find loose cash, with no way to identify owner = that one is not so clear cut. I have in the past spent half, donated half to charity.
