Dallas signs Hanzal (3 yrs, $4.75 mil AAV)
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I may have forgotten to put this out earlier, Martin Hanzal's terms in DAL, 3 x $4.75M.

lol that is not an over payment.
Only concern with this signing is his ability to stay healthy.
When he is healthy, he's a very good two way center with a massive frame and great face off ability.
That term is awesome too, for a 30 year old.
Dallas making some great moves this off season IMO.

That's a good contract for a real good two-way centre

Holy moly is dallas going for it. Strategy was evidently to just fill the roster via free agency

Hanzal has been on the decline, body breaking down, that term is scary.

For some reason I thought he was older than 30 but that still seems a bit steep.

He's big and a good two-way forward but he never seems to be as good offensively as you would hope. I see this like the Stajan (he's much better of course) deal in that he's overpaid but doesn't hurt you on the ice.

It's a good deal for both. Fair value for a good 2nd line center.

Feel like Bonino and Hanzal contracts will help guide Backlund negotiations

Backlund is younger and better.
Backlund will get around 4.5-5.5 million.

Yeah, he gets compared to Backlund a lot. But Backlund is trending up and Hanzal is looking like the wear and tear is starting to erode his play.

I actually read this as 3.75. Whoops...
I agree. Backlund is much better than Hanzal, anything around 5 is a great deal.
