I am surprised by the term. This is a good deal, I think.

Damn. A reasonable UFA contract. I was expecting 4-5 years for Mason.

I thought the Jets would have locked him up a little longer. Now he looks like a stopgap for Hellebuyck.

Damn!... great deal... I'm not sure whom I'd rather have on the Flames, necessarily, but I wouldn't have been disappointed in this deal had Treliving gone this route

It's a good term because no one else wants him, because he sucks.
Philly would rather have Brian Elliott at $2.5 million, enough said.
Jets overpaid as far as i'm concerned.

Seeing that price makes the Smith trade and giving up a 2nd a head scratcher.

Not sure if posted elsewhere, but Pavelec is heading to the Rangers.

I'll still root for him. Always thought he had good numbers but a bad defense.

I guess a lot of it has to do with the salary retention. Allowed the Flames to spend $3.5 million on a 5th defenseman. Also, Mason isn't as good as Smith or Elliott for that matter.

Maybe. But it won't be a big difference, and it won't matter much with the team that will be playing in front of Smith. The Flames are (yet again) going to crush Winnipeg.

The new NHL now means that unless your name is on the level of Price, or a Lundqvist, don't be expecting to get many years in term as a goalie. Teams who actually are still trying to solve their goaltending issue seem very leery of handing it out.

Well right or wrong, I believe Treliving preferred Smith with the Coyote connection a big part of it. Time will tell.
