As the current leading goal scorer (tied) for the Knights franchise I wonder if they consider retiring his jersey.

At the very least a video tribute of all the highlights throughout his time in Vegas. Much like what we did for Iggy.

Carolina has the best young defense core in the league at this point. No joke.

I really don't get why Carolina needed to do this unless they have another deal in the works.
They already have:
Slavin - Faulk
Hanifin - Pesce
Dahlbeck/Tennyson/Murphy/Fleury
With 4 of those guys being RH shots already.
I guess one of Tennyson or Murphy could also be going back the other way too + a pick or something.

All time Golden Knights leading scorer. Wonder if his number goes to the rafters.

I am curious to know the price coming back. With Kruger not going to VGK (yet I suppose), I imagine Chicago could have easily got whatever VGK is getting for van Riemsdyk instead of exposing him.

But then they would have had someone else to expose which they may not have wanted.

Not to mention, it would have altered Carolina's protection list too...
EDIT: What he said ^

Possibly but Carolina's protected D was:
Trevor Carrick
Justin Faulk
Ryan Murphy
Certainly Faulk is a no-brainer but van Riemsdyk would certainly be protected over Trevor Carrick.

Certainly possible, but maybe they didn't want to lose Carrick either? It may have just been easier for Carolina to do a deal after expansion.

I am not really questioning the Carolina side. I am thinking from Chicago's perspective I find it hard to believe they couldn't trade van Riemsdyk ahead of the trade freeze.
Now if the whole Kruger thing was pulled off the table from the Chicago side, they deserve nothing and its very poor asset management.
However, if it was pulled from the Vegas side last minute, that is very poor business and I would not be pleased with them if I was Chicago management.

2nd is pretty good return for Vegas, steep price to pay for a guy who is a 3rd pairing d-man for Carolina.

Man is TVR that good to warrant a 2nd round pick? I thought he was more of a 3rd pairng guy.

The 2nd is Pittsburgh's in this year's draft. Literally the last pick in the 2nd round. Carolina still has two other 2nds.

Defencemen cost a lot to trade for. We see this all the time. Is he a likely 3rd pairing guy? Yes. Is a 2nd an overpayment? Not really cause a top 4 dman usually costs a 1st rounder or more. Doug Murray, Regehr, Russell and others went for 2nd rounders+ as rentals.
I don't think a 2nd is unreasonable for a young bottom pairing dman
