We just had our Trevi 15 foot round above ground pool installed along with Hayward heater and pump. It was suggested that it run 24/7. I assumed it would be on a timer and shut off at night. Anyone who has the same type set up have any suggestions?
Are you concerned about the heat or the filtration?
I would thing in the summer it shouldn't cool off that much in the evenings. But I would prefer my pool on the cooler side. If I wanted warm, I would buy a hot tub.
If you're worried about the filtration, I think it depends on your bather load and you flow rates. What is the turnover time for a full cycle? If you have a birthday party with 50 screaming delinquents that haven't showered, I would let it run over night for a cycle. But if it's just you, I would turn it off at night. As long as you keep your chemicals are balanced, I wouldn't worry too much.

I saw a commercial for an above-ground pool, it was 30 seconds long. Because that's the maximum amount of time you can picture yourself having fun in an above-ground pool. If it was 31 seconds, the actor would say "The water is only up to here? What do I do now? Throw the ball back to Jimmy? Or put some goggles on and look at his feet?"

Do you have a solar blanket? It will warm the water through the day and hold in the heat at night. For most of the summer your heater shouldn't come on that much. Filter should always be on unless pools have drastically changed or you love skimming by hand and dealing with cloudy water.
I'd answer this question, but like most other cp members my pool is in ground. I heat it with $5 bills, so it is not to bad. If they ever convert $5 to coins, it will cost me twice as much to heat as I will have to burn $10's
