Default Ducks 3 Flames 2 (Ducks lead series 1-0)

http://www.calgarypuck.com/2017/04/g...-3-flames-2-3/

Is it me or did the Flames actually play quite well when you discount discipline and a huge brain fart?

Nice writeup. Aside from the brutal line change, the thing that really stood out for me was how awful the Flames were at face-offs tonight. On a late 5 on 3, with the game on the line, they HAVE to win a damn face-off.

that΄s actually quite a lot you have to discount, but overall i agree with you
the most frustrating part is, that the game was there to be won and we gifted it to the ducks

Hit the nail on the head with the last sentence. It's right there for the taking. The Flames showed they can stick with the Ducks 5-on-5. If they can stay out of the box, it's going to be a long series.

I'll be watching to see if Hamilton can get his head out of his ass in game 2. He needs to be a difference maker, but this time in a positive sense.

I would have given Elliott a star. He made some big saves to keep us in the game.

Dougie was my goat. I thought that first penalty was pee-wee hockey dumb. He got himself out of position because was expecting a call/whining to the ref. Play to the whistle dude.

And then wow was the third one ever dumb.

Default Ducks 3 Flames 2 (Ducks lead series 1-0)

This team's two biggest issues are lack of composure and occasional lack of urgency. The Ducks know how to exploit our lack of composure to a tee. Why there was a lack of urgency in game 1 of the playoffs is pretty troubling.

The talent is there to win this series. They just need to figure it out between the ears.

Nice review Bingo! How come Ducks games always sting? Thought we played pretty well before the gaffe; and were generating good traffic in front of the net, creating lots of chance off tips. Ferland and Monahan really brought their A game, and Bennett was pretty noticeable as well. Hope the rest can join in on the party.

We've proven we can hang with them there, we just need to get a GD win in that building now. Crazy how quickly that game changed in that disastrous sequence. Flames fairly in control late 2nd, teasing us with a W, then the line change mess and back to back penalties, suddenly Ducks have the lead and just put the clamps on, game blouses. It flipped and was just over so fast!

Game 2 is absolutely massive. All you need is a split and the baggage is gone and this city will explode as they come back here with all that mo'..or you lose again, that 800 lbs gorilla weighs even more, and the city still feels fairly subdued given it's playoffs. Game 2 is so crucial.

Seemed to be a ton of chances by the ducks generated by pucks being passed out front from behind the net. Flames were caught watching in the defensive zone and if not for Elliott it could have gotten ugly.

Need a much better effort in almost every facet if they want to win a game, let alone the series

5 on 3 for over a minute with the game on the line. I thought that the only way the Flames don't tie it up is if Gibson makes 2 or 3 star of the game saves.

I'd like to see Chiasson, Brouwer and Bouma sat...

Tkachuk – Backlund – Frolik
Gaudreau – Monahan – Ferland
Versteeg – Bennett – Lazar
F.Hamilton – Stajan – Hathaway

I'd definitely like to see Hathaway draw in. He brings so much energy.

Game 1 5-on-5 CF%:

Ferland - 72.41%
Mony - 71.43%
Johnny - 67.74%

Play the same way in Game 2 & they're going to find the back of the net.

Johnny was ever so close to pulling the Olympic 2010 version of Crosby. He did next to nothing all game but had tbe game on his stick in the dying minutes. That was a huge save by Gibson.

I guess another way of looking at it is that aside from Getzlaf, the ducks actually didn't look that great either. Do they have another gear? Or were they actually stifled by the Flames?

I think the lineup gets one more crack at it on Saturday.

If the go down 0-2, i'm pretty sure we'll see Lazar in. Freddie might get in and Hathaway could get up too.

and NO, Wideman will not get in unless there is an injury. I still can't believe those who want Bartkowski out for Wideman. Both Wideman and Bartkowski are poor defensively, but at lease Bartkowski can skate and can hit. Wideman can't even skate at the NHL level anymore.

Flames best chance to win in Anaheim would have been game 1. The ducks will be more prepared from here on in I would think.

Wideman should not play left D, but he is an upgrade on Engelland.
