What a mess. Just when it was looking like the Islanders were finally, finally turning the corner they go full Islanders. I'm sure the team's dip in performance this season has nothing to do with the fact the GM made them worse in the offseason.

At least Maurice will have a job to go to next year.

Yup Capuano deserved better than this.

Next step will be Tavares wanting out from the zoo.

well, it's going to be much harder for them to convince Tavares that they're 'building a winner' if they don't turn the ship around.

if/when they lose him....that franchise is back to being in rough shape.

PS. lol @ that Ladd deal.

That guy has been a dead man walking for a while now.

Which is a shame.

The Islanders are a mess. The ownership situation. The arena situation. The poor GM decisions. The subpar draft record and lack of young players / prospects.

They have been through two long playoff droughts in the last two decades and only have Tavares to show for it. They are wasting the prime of his career.

I wouldn't know what to do if I was the Islanders GM. Capuano or not, the Isles are not built to contend. Do you tear it down and rebuild? Hope you can sneak into the playoffs this year or next?

No better time to fire the coach then after a 4-0 shutout win on the road.

/I know there's way more to it than that, the timing is pretty funny though.

Nothing like rebuilding a team just to the point of mediocrity, getting cheap and letting good players in their prime go, and then expecting to improve.

No way Tavares sticks around in that circus.

Did he have to hail his own cab out front of the arena after the game?

I thought I read somewhere that Capuano was renting Snow's basement?

Think Tavares will test free agency. Flames might be able to fit him under the cap.

Islanders issues have spurned from player development going back to Ryan Strome and Ryan Pulock not figuring it out. Dal Colle is following a similar trajectory. Its one thing not to be able to develop your lower end picks but if your higher end picks aren't panning out theirs huge issues. These are the guys that should be complimenting Tavares

I bet Snow refuses to let him out of his lease.

What a sad state for the once great franchise.

If Tavares does want to move the flames should go all in, whatever it takes. Toronto would likely become cup contenders if he were to go there though.

McKenzie reporting that the Islanders asked permission to talk to Gerrard Gallant... weeks before firing Capuano.
