Playoff Beard Thread
Hey all, just for a lighter topic as we embark on what is an exciting, but ultimately stress-inducing time, I wanted to see how many of you are growing a beard for the playoffs (sorry ladies, a little exclusionary, I admit).
I do wear a beard full time, but I wear it trimmed down. This is not a stubble-shadow that you would find on a model or an actor, but an actual beard, just closely-cropped. I also shave my neck and around some of the edges to keep it clean looking. However, I'm letting it go completely for the playoffs and I wanted to know who else is going to be putting down the razor for hopefully the next couple months...as long as the Flames are in the playoffs.
I grew my first beard in 2004 when they made their run then, but it wasn't the strongest beard then. Fast forward 11 years and my beard is coming in so thick and fast, especially on my neck, that I already look like a drifter that you would cross the street to avoid if you saw me walking towards you on the sidewalk. I only stopped shaving once they clinched against L.A., but I'm already feeling like a wolverine.
Anyway, this is a playoff beard celebration and appreciation thread. Post anything beard-related that you like. Post pictures of the best playoff beards of players this year. Post your own progress if you wish. I may post my own progress now and then.
I leave you with a couple of hairy displays from years past that I really appreciated.

I'd like to participate (I wear a trimmed beard that sounds similar to yours) but I may have to shave it for some out of town work. As far as beards I appreciate, good on Iggy for trying but that thing was ratty.

I think our entire top line is going to have the most hilarious playoff beards in the NHL.

Did my final beard trim last night, time to let it grow wild. I'm hoping it gets Brent Burns wild which would mean a long playoff run.

Normally, I shave about once a week, but I just trimmed out the neck this last weekend. Hopefully, I have to figure out a way to taper off sideburns into my shaved head.

Shaved the winter beard a few weeks ago, but if we can go a few rounds, I think it might return to glory

Back in 03/04 the flames had a mustache contest in feb and my bro grew his first one ever when the team started and grew it all the way till the final round and beyond lol. I have a late start on mine - just this past weekend - and it looks absolutley brutal - My bro said stay out of the triscuits when he saw me starting it haha - but I will endure the awkward looks and grow my first true stache in honour of not only Lanny McDonald but also that 03/04 team!
GOFLAMESGO!!
Edit: Just to be clear - there is no way ill ever be able to rock a beard hahaha which is why at the very least I can grow a duster

Always grow the playoff beard. I started for the game vs edmonton, since that was the playoff drive, letting it flow till the end!

I'm in. My beard is patchy and ridiculous and my wife will hate it, but I'm putting away the razor starting tomorrow until mid-June. (Hopefully)

Also just got rid of the winter beard, but with a good playoff run it should get back to normal. Mass_nerder, that thing is putting me to shame.

Haven't shaved since we clinched. Hopefully it gets ratty to the point of rediculous and starts to frighten small children

I believe that a true playoff beard requires shaving (or trimming existing growth) sometime between the end of Saturday's game in Winnipeg and game 1.
I'm in for this playoff run. Shaved clean as soon as the game ended Saturday afternoon. I grew decent ones (similar to the image posted above by Mustache) for the Seahawks playoffs runs these past two Januaries!

I buzz my hairwth a #0 (3/64" or 1.2mm) guard and keep a neatly trimmed short to mid length goatee. I can't grow much hair on my cheeks so I stick with just the goatee to keep looking professional at work.
For playoffs I don't cut my hair and I don't trim my goatee. In 2004 I looked like Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart but with hair. Going for that look again.
