Default NHL.com article Predicting Flames Will Win The Stanley Cup

A Rare Positive and Insightful Story on the Flames!

Flames will win Stanley Cup behind Johnny Gaudreau
Underdog Calgary to bring home first title in 28 years
by Tim Campbell @TimNHL / NHL.com Staff Writer

Quote:
Balance and goaltending are clear requirements for a team to win the Stanley Cup.
Those qualities, combined with an ideal setup in the underdog role heading into the Stanley Cup Players, are why the Calgary Flames will shock the NHL and win the Stanley Cup.
Quote:
Of course, the biggest reason for their success will be Elliott, who was 26-18-3 with a 2.55 goals-against average and .910 save percentage After a rocky start to his first season in Calgary, Elliott finished strong and showed he has the ability to carry the Flames.
Quote:
It's clear Gulutzan knows what buttons to push, and that ability will be important when it comes to dealing with adversity in the postseason.
His intensity, Gaudreau's big-game ability and the play of Elliott is why the Flames, who last won the Cup in 1989, will bring the title back to Calgary.

That's a pretty bold prediction and hope it's correct. However, the Flames can't win at the Honda Centre. They need to win at least one game there. If they can win the first or second game there, then, anything goes.

Something tells me the Oilers are going to do it before the Flames. Maybe not this year, but within the next year or two. Both the Ducks and Oilers are peaking at the right time and I think the Flames peaked too early and is in the mode of just staying status quo. We'll see, first two games at the Honda Centre will basically say it all.

The Stanley Cup is a war of attrition. Rattling off the names of a team's top players is fine and dandy, but depth matters.

I think many will be surprised when Flames come back from Anaheim with a 2-0 lead.

Well, my wifes 94 year old grandfather told me at Christmas "if this shi**y team makes the playoffs they'll probably be in the cup finals"

Respect your elders and believe I guess!

If the Flames beat the Ducks, I have no doubt they make it to at least the WCF.

Strange article though. Not since the summer when Bouwmeester was signed and we had a full season of Jokinen, did we see an article predicting the Flames to win

Only been past the 1st round twice in 28 years. Double ouch! And some Flames fans laugh at the Browns.

Go to NHL.com. It's a piece they do for every team... kind of like an 'If the Flames win, this will be why' .

One of the guys on Around the Horn predicted Calgary-Washington in the final.

I mean, I don't see it myself. Not with our powerplay especially, but it is certainly nice to see people outside Calgary seeing positive things out of us.
