Icon23 Bickell has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis

https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/...is/c-283637026

"First and foremost, the most important thing is for Bryan to take care of himself and our thoughts are with him and his family," said Francis. "He will need to take some time to rest in the immediate future, and we will support him as he takes the necessary steps for his health. We ask that his privacy be respected during the process."

"Since the 2015 playoffs, I've been struggling to understand what was going on with my body. Again during the past few weeks, it felt like something wasn't right," said Bickell. "Obviously this is a bit of shock for my family and me, but I am hopeful I will be able to return to the ice and continue playing the game that I love."

The worst. This serves as a reminder, that regardless of how much animosity we may hold to a player on the ice, they are human beings with all the issues that come with that. My heart goes out to him and his family as they cope with and fight this horrible disease.

terrible news, all the best to him as he fights this ####ty disease. Hopefully he can prolongue his career a bit. Harding played two more years after he was diagnosed, Sigalet even played five more years I believe.

Mrs Duke just got diagnosed with this and is really going through a rough time. It's taken a severe toll on her and I can't even imagine playing hockey with it. Best of luck to him.

At least now he knows the cause, years of unexplained vertigo must have been incredibly frustrating. While no one would want to receive this news, living with symptoms with no explanation has to be worse. Now he can seek treatment, and if he so chooses, can throw himself behind MS research.

Forward Bryan Bickell is expected to play his first game for the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November.
In the almost 5 months since this thread was made, I've seen firsthand how this disease has destroyed the quality of life for my wife. So any story like this is super awesome and gives people like her hope that they too might turn it around.
I hope the fans in St Paul give him a warm welcome back.

This is great news for him, and most importantly a beacon for all of those struggling with this terrible disease.

All the best to the Dukes. Great to hear you guys feel the inspiration in this.

My mother was diagnosed with it almost 18 years ago, and it's been incredible to watch the resiliency and determination she's had since then. MS really is one of those diseases that how you choose to approach it has such a big impact on the quality of life. If you want to talk about it, PM me.

#GoBickell

Hope he does well.

Saw an emotional interview/feature on him couple weeks ago - have to pull for the guy.

Also reminds of Josh Harding couple years back when he got diagnosed season after having a stellar year and posting insane stats (1.65 GAA and .933 SV% in 2013-14!!!). Wonder how he's fairing these days.
