After watching the Flames arena and Stamps stadium talks go nowhere with the city over the past 2 years - I thought a petition of support was in order.

Please read, sign, and share this with as many people as possible.

I started it not even 24 hours ago and already have over 100 signatures.

You forgot to add I support subsidizing the arena to the tune of 500 million dollars with a cash outlay of 1.2billion dollars.

Without the dollars attached it's just a petition saying "I like nice things"

What good is a petition going to do? Everyone knows we all want a new arena. I can use the 18 seconds of time it would take to fill out that form to do other cool things online instead.

Some of the comments on this petition are ridiculous.

"I think it's a shame that his Worship Mayor Nenshi seems so arrogant and close minded to the concept of working with CSEC to bring much needed infrastructure to Calgary. Choosing to do nothing at a time when the employment and future tax base it would create are sorely needed should make this a civic election issue. Maybe then he will start to consider the "other 0.0003%" and their interests. I guess the majority 99.9997% felt a new soon to be underutilized central library was more important? He seems to think so but I surely don't."

- The library is not underutilitzed, and it's cheaper and more important to the general public than an arena
- Why is a "new tax base" needed for "future elections"? Are taxes going to increase 600% each year?
- "Worship Mayor Nenshi"?

To be fair that's almost every comment section on social media regarding anything related to CalgaryNEXT. People like to take pot shots at Nenshi or really anything in general.
