The only things left to do from a Flames perspective is to get rid of Wideman's salary, potentially replacing it with our other area of need - a gritty winger. But that depends on Wideman being moved at all, and that's not something that will happen until we know where Shattenkirk is headed. And the bidding war might go on for some time.

We probably don't hear about a Wideman trade until sometime after 3pm that day.

the 5 game rolling average for goaltending paints a pretty clear picture: there have been some awful stretches, but we're back to respectable. Hopefully the trend will continue

Last few years I've started to view the deadline as a week rather than a day. I like it better that way. 2-3 trades/day is better than 30 trades in one day. So from that perspective I'd say it's already been fairly busy.

That article represents exactly how I feel. Everything seems to be falling in place at the right time, so does one mess with it? I think that's why fans make terrible GM's. During a rough patch, it's "fire everyone, trade everyone". During a hot streak, it's the opposite. I suspect the Flames brass have made their deadline decisions based on 62 games, not the last 10. I do think they will try to upgrade their right side. They can keep Ferland in place while it's rolling, but it would be nice to have another option should the first line need a shake up. Even an in-game shake up.

I'd still be open to upgrading on Bennett with one of the good Av's some how but that's the only "big impact" trade I'd be willing to see.

Unless the expansion draft opens up a possibility all I see is that hurdle argument

find a goalie that exceeds Elliott? Is it Miller? At what cost?

find a forward that can push one of Brouwer or Ferland out of the top 9. I see both as risky, this is Brouwer's time of the year and Ferland seems to have chemistry with the top line.

a cheap rental to exceed Bartkowski that doesn't cost much.

I don't think you'd get any level of NHL player for these two guys, even packaged together.

I muster over this a lot, but feel as if Bennett will be a solid player for us, and a guy who has a playoff gear. Combined with his cap-friendly bridge deal, I think we hold on to him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jokipakka get moved. Bouma might also get some interest.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if Wideman or Bollig can be moved.

I doubt the Flames will bring in any big names, especially a big name rental.

I suspect that Treliving will be active in trying to improve the team by taking advantage of teams trying to get value for players they won't be able to protect in the Expansion Draft, but I think those types of deals are more likely to happen once teams' seasons are over and not at the deadline.

Personally I'd love to see a trade deadline day where all the experts at the various tv networks are sitting around recapping the trades over the past few days and looking at their phones all day waiting for something that is not happening.

As for the flames, only make a trade if you feel it will make the team better next year. Barring another miraculous run, this team is a ways away from being a real contender

Lets hope for the predicted outcome with a ROUND 1 against CGY and EDM.

The biggest possibility is a deal with Colorado. But, maybe not in the way people would think here.

You make it sound like you know something!

When you lay out a team it's pretty easy to put down what Treliving has to be doing ...

- kicking tires on moves for Jokipakka and/or Wideman
- listening to what Pittsburgh, Tampa (was) and Vancouver is doing with their goaltenders
- assessing values on forward rentals

it's the other stuff that Treliving always seems to be doing that is impossible to guess.

I just keep thinking one of the protection issue teams and Calgary get something going and it is a trade that changes Calgary's protection list.

And Cube above? I think Duclair is moving towards that failed prospect phase as well, so maybe that could get done. He's had one big season so he's worth more, but I'm guessing that's ball park if the Flames wanted to do it ... which I'm guessing they wouldn't given Klimchuk's pace towards pro hockey. Rieder no way.

Deadline day is best used when contenders add depth for a playoff run and the pretenders add picks for future years. The Flames are really neither at the moment - currently a middling team on the upswing - so should stay quiet at deadline day. Try for a playoff spot with the existing roster - enjoy the experience - and plan for the draft.

Using deadline day to successfully 'fill roster holes' is a myth constructed by the sports networks to attract viewers. Seen that play out over several years around here a decade ago. No thanks.

On "Hockey Central at Noon" one of the hosts said he heard ownership nixed a Flames Bishop deal.

For me the lack of a contract for Treliving is puzzling unless he's maybe been told the playoffs or you're gone. Sutter and Feaster faced the same situation
although for me his firing would be way premature.

While if this is true, I think it was the right move considering Treliving should just stay the eff away from goalies for a bit since he has one that is currently playing well and his record with tenders is awful.

Scary that the ownership would veto it. Meddling ownership is a death sentence for a franchises success.

I think franchises are pretty much resigned to losing a third liner, fourth defenceman or backup goalie. Not the end of of the world. They bank their share of the expansion fee.

This is sort of a Toggle Deadline for the Flames. If there's an advantageous deal out there, they'll make it. If not, they'll pass.
