What could Wideman fetch us at the deadline?
Mods please make this a poll.. I am very interested in where the bell curve goes here, seems like we are all over the place.
- 2nd round pick or better
- 3rd round pick
- 4th round pick
- 5th round pick
- 6th round pick
- 7th round pick
- Nothing (conditional 7th or worse)

We would have to give something up to get rid of him.

Best thing - 2nd round or better. Worst thing - We get nothing and he walks at the end of the season. Either way, he's not a Flames next season, Yay!

What can we get for Wideman? How about who would want him? I have to think that getting rid of Wideman is addition by subtraction at this point. $5.25 million in cap space and a few less shocking giveaways a game is a good thing for this club right now.

Not a lot. Any team that has scouted him has seen exactly the same player fans have. Slow and error prone. He's not even that great on the point offensively anymore and that was really all he offered when he was signed here.

4th or 5th round pick at the absolute best and that's us likely eating half his cap or more.
Who is actually interested in a guy who makes so many mistakes and can barely skate?

No point in paying to get rid of him, just let his contract expire and bench him if you have to. That being said, Nice Guy Glen won't do that for whatever reason, he wants Wideman to play a major role on defense.

I think if a GM was desperate enough he could maybe fetch a 3rd.

I disagree with most. D is always sought after at the deadline. I best he could easily get a 3rd.

Even at 50% retained I can't see any team being desperate enough to pay for what amounts to a defensive liability and a bullseye for the refs.

If you can teach Wideman to fetch I would be most impressed.

Why wasn't he traded last year then when the Flames were also shopping him?
D are sought after I agree but teams don't just want ANY d-man.

At the deadline, with salary retained, you might get a taker for an expiring contract. Chicago had to run 40 year old Kimmo Timmonen out for 5 minutes a night a couple years ago at one point - Wideman's better than that. He's a suitable 7th D to a contending team.

Negative value. Have to give up assets. His ref issues alone will scare teams off.
