Calgary 4th Largest Canadian City
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgar...sion-1.3972079
Calgary had the highest growth rate of any metropolitan area in Canada over the past five years, despite being in the throes of an economic downturn, according to the latest census data.
It has surpassed Ottawa-Gatineau to become the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country, according to 2016 census data released Wednesday by Statistics Canada.
Calgary's metropolitan area has reached 1.4 million people, while Ottawa-Gatineau stands at 1.3 million.

We also have an idiotic Census Metropolitan Area boundary that literally ends at the City limit in the south. So if you live in Heritage Pointe, and can hit a golf ball into the City of Calgary with a 9 iron, you are not actually in the Calgary CMA (yet).
The Census Division of City of Calgary and surroundings makes more sense:
Here we have a population of 1.498m

I always thought it was 4th so good to see that confirmed.
A great city with a good business environment. Most recent PCs and now NDP have done a good job though destroying the Alberta Advantage. Hopefully by 2019 that changes back.
Per capita it must have one of the better train systems and size of downtowns in North America.

It's been 4th in the Federal population annual estimates the past few years, but this is the first time in the official census we have surpassed Ottawa/Gatineau I believe.

This is not the Calgary CMA map, so not officially, no. This is a "Census Division".
This is the Calgary CMA. Which again, oddly, does not yet go south of the City boundary.

An even more accurate reflection is what stats-can calls the CMA-ecosystem

To be included in the CMA or CA, other adjacent municipalities must have a high degree of integration with the core, as measured by commuting flows derived from previous census place of work data.
2. Forward commuting flow rule: Given a minimum of 100 commuters, at least 50% of the employed labour force living in the CSD works in the delineation core
3. Reverse commuting flow rule: Given a minimum of 100 commuters, at least 25% of the employed labour force working in the CSD lives in the delineation core

It's really great that the federal and provincial governments recognize our position as the fastest growing metro in the country. Really looking forward to them prioritizing Calgary when it infrastructure spending and job growth.

Two things.
1. No it isnt. Its the Town of Airdrie and any complaints to the contrary is just the whining of country bumpkins.
2. It isnt included in the numbers for Calgary. Because screw them. Thats why.

Now only if you can agree on how to properly pronounce Calgary.
